I hear stories mentioned in conversation every now and then about people that spend all their time on facebook. I have an account on there but I don't understand how people do this. just what exactly are they doing on there?

Playing games, reading what the hundreds of people on the buddy list do, and so on.

I try to keep my facebook friendslist as tiny as possible, so at about 30 people right now. I check sometimes in to see if someone has posted new photos from some events, whether our video evening takes place (we organize it in a facebook group) or chat with one friend or another.

I use it purely to keep in touch with friends and nose at photos.

I try not to spend too long on it each day - enough time to reply to messages and see what's new, but I don't often post status updates.

The people who are important to me will know my news without me needing to tell a whole bunch of others.

Let's see.

My recent FB actions:

Today I exchanged a few pm's with someone I was concerned about, and liked a cute picture of a friend.

Yesterday I commented on a friend's asking about curfew for her daughter with a joke about getting her chipped at the vet; commented on someone else's post about wine-making with approval; commented on someone's post about having a relationship with her gas stove; and told someone else happy birthday.

So on and so forth.

Oh, I also smiled at a few funny pictures posted and frowned at gross one.

I didn't know that, how does that work? do you have to join a group? I wouldn't have thought it would be as busy as a forum.

it all depends on who you have as contacts

you can just interact with the people on your "friends" list

or there also groups you can participate in - some are "private" so that only members of that group can see the posts

then you can also private message individuals and one-on-one conversations - just like here

ah I see. I don't have many contacts on there so that could be why I didn't understand what people were doing!

When I was taking classes at uni, I see people going on facebook on their laptop. The guys are usually checking out hot girls, clicking through different profiles and looking at pics.
