I'm up to chapter 4 and I can tell this is going to be a tough read, but hopefully a rewarding one in the end.

The Drop by Michael Connelly. The last 10 books I read were all by Michael Connelly I think I have a problem....obsessed.

After deciding I need to read more, I just finished A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (i LOVED it). I want to read Life of Pi next.

The Mammoth Book of Wierd News: Geoff Tibballs (Ed.) Purchased at Airport to help pass travel time. Contains some very amusing stories, some of which I had to question the integrity of the reporting. I actually laughed out loud at a couple.

Can anyone recommend some humorous writers? I like reading Tim Cahills books and Jon Ronson has some very funny moments.

Xu Lun: A Madman's Diary and other stories. Great insight into the history of China at the beginning of 20th century.

Subpop: Czech Republic has some good funny writers, like Michal Viewegh.

I'm reading Stanislaw Lems science-fiction novel "Lokaltermin". The book has never been translated into English. Sadly, I don't speak Polish, so I read it in German instead.

Major topics of the book are: the problems of the society of plenty based entirely on automated production where individuals have little to do; imposition of ethical laws through technology i.e. the ethicsphere which has made it impossible to harm individuals physically; and the ideological opposition of two dominant systems, which is basically a parody of Western-Soviet Union split taken to the absurd.
