What a day...

Negative:
- Sent in a job application yesterday. Really worried about the whole thing.
- Felt like shite when waking up
- Still got a cold and feel lousy
- Saw myself in the mirror and got even more depressed.
- Tried to convert an avi movie file to DVD, discovered that the aspect ratio was not compatible with PAL DVD standard despite my instructions. DAMN!
- Had to spend the day at my parents house reinstalling their machine after the hard drive died painfully. What a fun job! Oh, did I mentioned I hadn't made a backup of their files for ages? Well, they are lost now... DAMN again!
- Machine wouldn't start, had to reset CMOS by moving a pin on the motherboard. Didn't have a manual so I picked one at random...first bit of luck today.
- After installing almost everything, got bluescreen after restart... FUCK! Had to reinstall everything but Windows, then got bluescreen again. Double FUCK! Must come back tomorrow and try again...

Positive:
- Parent's dog was happy to see me.
- Went for a run in the forest in pouring rain. Yes, this was actually nice.

Not going anywhere with this post...just needed to vent.

My life = ( + :x ) X 10

Dear Clavain, sorry you have had such a bad day.. :( I know what you mean about the job application..when I used to apply I was never sure if I was more nervous about not getting the job or about getting it! 8O
About your cold..I read and have tried what it says to do on the internet, put hydrogen peroxide drops in your ears to kill the infection and it may help cut down on the time you are ill. Also maybe take garlic.. 8O I know it is nasty but it does help! Lots of fluids..what else? Umm..maybe take some apple cider vinegar as well to kill the infection. I know I'm giving you a lot of home remedies but I have tried it and they do help..
Hope you feel better soon! :)
Oh and the run in the forrest in the rain sounded nice! But maybe try not to do it when your sick? Take care!

Thanks, Mary! I'm not that sick actually, I never get really sick for some reason. Just a bit dizzy and tired and it makes everything much worse. All my other problems, however, are killing me... Hey, maybe I'm just sick with worry?

Btw, why do say that I hate you in the Da Vinci thread? You wrote: "I will continue to pray for all of you, despite your hatred of me," I certainly don't hate you, just think it's sad that you spend time worrying about hell and things like that, that's all. Okay, I just wanted to say that, so that there are no hard feelings. I don't hate anyone I'm debating with here!

Well I don't know who it is who hates me, I wasn't directing that at you especifically, but to whoever it might have applied to..
Well its good that you aren't so sick, I used to get colds alot especially this past winter and now w/my nifty computer I can look up remedies and came across the one about the peroxide and vinegar. It really did help me when I was starting to get sick again and also my hubby..So now I tell everybody about it..lol.
And I was going to put this earlier but didn't know if you would be offended but hopefully you won't..so I'll just say it now..I will be praying for you. Seriously! :)

I'm not entirely sure why you would want to go from an AVI to a DVD...normally it's the other way around, but there are a lot of freeware programs out there that can do this sort of thing such as Avi2Dvd...never used it but im bored now so ill try it out and ill just give you what i did to convert...maybe that will help ya a bit :p. Also, a better and far more in depth guide is here
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/avi_to_dvd_avi2dvd.cfm

- I got the program from here
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/avi2dvd.cfm

- After it is installed click the load avi/ogm/mkv/wmv, find the file and load it...title can't have funky characters in it...there is a message that will tell you this though if yours does. Also under the first tab is the aspect ratio setting...16/9 if its widescreen, 4/3 if its full screen...it was able to get the right one for me.

- once loaded, click on the Output tab...it should be set for a DVD or SVCD, you can choose the disc type...standard DVD is the default. Here you can convert the movie from NTSC to PAL or PAL to NTSC which is what it looked like was your problem. My only option was to convert NTSC to PAL probably because my movie is NTSC, so i chose to convert it. Another cool thing in this section is you can create chapters...you can screw around with that if you know where you want the chapters to be. You can also choose the output folder here.

- I changed the encoder to the HCEnc option and the profile to fast since im just going to be deleting this after i convert it (I also cut a minute segment out of the original movie before i started, and am just converting that since this stuff takes forever), but obviously for better quality choose the best option. I left the matrix alone and didnt mess with the subtitles and dvd menu tabs.

- Then I pressed the Add Job button and the Go button.

- After a very long time (seriously...really really really long) it will finish and leave you with a ISO file and a whole bunch of other stuff you don't really need. You can burn the ISO file onto a DVD with most any burning program (Nero and Roxio to name a few)

Dunno if that helped at all, but it kept me entertained so it's all good.

Hi Toad,

Well, I have this Japanese movie that I downloaded, and I wanted to create a DVD so that my parents can play it. I translated the subtitles from English to Norwegian, so it's very important that this Avi2DVD software can import subtitles. Thanks for the tip, I'll look into it when I get home!
