trying out a few new anxiety supplements.

Hi. I am frequently trying out new ways to stay calm and have clear thoughts. I find that taking ginko and omega3, plus vitamin B's , E, C & D has helped me out a lot. Recently, i ordered online : Clarocet ''ert'' and ''st. john's Positive Thoughts'' capsules. They seem to be working, i feel calm (not sedate), always in very good spirits and i catch myself humming or singing often. Another one i bought was ''Sunshine in a bottle''. ALL 3 products have a combo of herbs and vitamins that are common in any natural food stores, its just more convenient to pop one capsule 3 times a day then to buy everything . Anyways, i am relating what works for me, and i know that we all react differently to various products, so if you wish to try what i mentioned....google and you be your own human guinea pig. One word of caution....go easy on the amount of blood thinning supplements you take (vitamin E, omega 3's, ginko), as i had 2 nosebleeds in one week and always be smart and research as much as possible before buying and taking anything you put down your throat.... :) be safe &live happy/healthy.

I also have experiemented with countless herbs and natural remedies. St Johns wort, passionflower, B-vitamins, lithium orotate,L- theanine, etc etc. Most of these you will find in brand name remedies you mentioned. I also tried flower essences . The latest one I tried is called caesin hydrolysate. and it is a milk derived protien something or other that has been proven to calm nerves, and also very safe. They are now adding it to baby formulas because it calms collicky babies so well. You can buy it by the brand name InstaCalm, or ProCalm. Now, this one is so far the only one that I can definitely notice an effect almost immediately. It makes you feel kinda warm and fuzzy, and even a bit groggy, so im not sure if it better for anxiety or getting a good sleep. My problem is that I have become so good at avoidance techniques that I never really get to "test" these remedies where it counts. I am constantly on the lookout for new ideas, and was watching, hmm, i think it was the "Learning channel', or the "discovery channel", and amazingly a short commercial aired about SA, with a number to call for free tapes. I have only seen it once or twice and like a moron , never wrote down the number. But I will be on the lookout for it again.

Forgot to mention something in my rambling. I recently started taking magnesium supplement. I have had a bottle in my cabinet for quite a while and never take it, so i went online to research and try to remember why the heck i ever bought it, and was amazed at the new findings about it and how important it is, and also that many many everyday health problems, and also life threatening conditions are caused by deficiency of this mineral. Even personality disorders many times are caused by low blood levels. seems it is more important to bone health than Calcium is, and consuming too much calcium, as i do, depletes magnesium . well needless to say, i started taking them every day, 250 cap twice a day. I seem to be feeling better, but its a very natural and mild improvement. Like i just started noticing I am reacting different to sitruations and not really thinking about it. I have also temporarily stopped taking all but my regular vitamins because I just cant afford to keep them on hand all the time. I take the InstaCalm occasionally and though it works, its kind of costly so i only use it right before a stressful event. its the kind of supplement you can take that way, not like St Johns wort that you need to take religiously over a period of time to see any results. anyhow, do a search on magnesium and see what you think, it's also very cheap to buy.

I have not tried any herbal supplements yet, but I am strongly considering Kava Kava or Ashwaghanda(winter cherry). If I do get them, I'll keep you informed on how well they work. They sound like they could do wonders.

I did hear where kava is supposed to be really bad for the liver. I took capsules a few times, befor i learned this but I didn't notice an effect. I did have whole herb kava tea, which I used as a cold remedy, mixed with fenugreek seed and anise seed tea. The Kava numbs your throat and lips

Do you mean that the Kava did not have any noticable effects on you? What dose did you take?

I really don't remember what the dose was as it was quite a while ago and it was a cheaper drug store brand. But when i heard about the liver thing i stopped taking them . My mom has a liver disease and she lives clean so i was afraid i may be pre destined for liver trouble genetically. i took alert when I heard kava can cause liver damage , mostly because of that.

I'm not surprise you didn't get any affect with the cheap kava drug store brand. There no one that oversees the herbal supplement market so they can put as much as they want in.They did a study of different brands of herbal supplement and found that some had less then 20% of the actual herb in them.

Yea you have to be careful when it comes to kava and the liver but some one with a healthy live should not have a problem with it.

Well, anymore I have became more picky when it comes to dishing out money for supplements and I do alot of online research, well you have to because so many sites sell them and you have to get the best quality for the best price.I have to say I am intrigued by just what I have read tonight on here, so many people praising Kava. I really haven't looked into it in a long time. When I first bought the stuff i had i wasn't buying it for SA, I actually seen a news report about it around the same time that St Johns wort and Echinacea were being widely recognised and researched, and I like many others ran out and bought the first bottle i saw at CVS.

The clinical trials and reports about Kava sound very promising indeed. If I get some, I am not sure where to buy from or what brand. How do you find out which brand is good or not good?

You sound like you have experience. I wonder if you can track me down a good brand that ships to the UK. I am also doing research on it. That and the other herb I mentioned, Ashwagandha(Winter cherry)

I bought Kava sometime ago and out of all the natural supplements and stuff i have bought and tried i can say Kava is the only one that made any noticable effect on me.

I have used both the capsuals and powder and the capsuals done nothing but the powder was good if you can stand the taste. For me the feeling i got was one of relaxation a bit like when you start drinking alcohol and you feel the alcohol just taking effect only the feeling of Kava stays at this point and feels good. I also got some great nights sleeep while using it. As for the liver stuff it dosent damage the liver instantly its only through continued use and abuse, like most stuff if you take too much of it its bad for you.

I bouhght mine form here http://www.kickbackwithkava.com/kava_USA_order_form.htm and i bouhgt the "KAVA SAMPLER"

all sorts of stuff out there.

Dont forget that there are herbal teas to try out too. I have about 20 different types kicking around my kitchen. On days i skip out on my half de-caff coffees and just drink non-caffienated herbal teas..i feel more at ease..calm. Once again, its trial and error when you are trying to figure out what works best for you. Has anyone in here tried cutting out caffiene altogether? Plus, avoiding pop/sodas, pastries, sugary foods/drinks. Supplements are great, but look at your diet and start cutting out a lot of crap and if you do as i have done, your mood will improve.
