To those who feel depressed from time to time

I used to get depressed a lot because of SA :( , but now, every time I feel that way, I just remind myself that sooner or later the feeling will pass :D - which is probably the case for most people (I hope), apart from the minority who have to battle with severe depression on a long-term basis.

Remember the last time you felt depressed or unhappy. How long did that feeling last? A day, a week, a month? Eventually something will happen that will make us feel a little bit better.

We just need to be strong by remembering that life is like a roller coaster. It has its highs and low and you can never predict what's going to happen next or where you will end up in the future.

That reality usually gets me through things.

Even if today's hell, tomorrow may be better.

(If anyone out there gets really depressed and isolated, feel free to PM me) xxxxx

That's good advice to remember. :) Even during long depressive spells, there are times of better mood mixed in. Sometimes one then 'remembers' that they're depressed.

The problem with depression is that it makes the delusions it creates seem real and logical at the time. When depressed, for instance, there may literally be 'no hope left in the world'. When one feels better, one can see how wrong that was.

The trick is realizing that you need your CBT tricks when they're needed. :) Usually when you need them (for me at least), it seems like I *don't* need them and am just facing a horrid reality. It's so messed up. I guess that's why they call it mental illness. :p

that is the real problem with depression. it's like having an evil twin whispering put-downs and negative feedback in your ears. it messes with your perspective.

i've been trying to get into cbt, it sounds very useful.

nice words saharaworld, this is exactly what i tell myself... i just think of myself a month from that moment.

and yeah magda, that makes alot of sense too. like at the time NOTHING helps, you know it's not rational but you can't feel better...

this post was kinda yin yangy but i can see both sides.

I should really push this thinking up to the surface when i get like that - my states only last for at most a day so it is not something that i would have to do for long - like you said it always passes, so concentrating on that would be more helpful than wallowing in it.

SaharaWorld, I get that too, but they last only a day or so, but they are hell. But like you, I try to tell myself it will pass and tomorow i'll feel better, although in that moments it seems like the world is coming to an end and you feel like shooting a bullet in your mouth and end the agony once and for all.

Long term severe depression is not going to get me anymore cause I'll keep myself away from ruminating, that is the worst thing to do when feeling depressed, I wish I knew that when I needed it.

The thing I do that help me with depression is eating banannas (sounds stupid, wright ?), exercising, listening to joyfull music, joking with online friends, just keeping myself busy all the time. :)

Is it just me, or do you guys usually feel better when waking the next day if you've been pretty down the day before. For some reason things just seem like that they will work out when the sun is shining outside and I start a new day. Sometimes when I'm depressed, I just list all the reasons why my life sucks, and think how it could be worse lol, this helps in a wierd selfish way. But I usually feel so much better if I talk to one of my close friends when Im feeling like Im all alone and everything in life sucks.

yes..I've been getting depressed quite a lot recently. I've noticed it more in the evenings, so instead of sitting up worrying about things I just go to bed instead...because I usually do feel ok when I get up.
& I don't know about bananas helping depression, but I know they make you feel better if you're hungover.

I've been depressed all my life...I've had one happy month ALL YEAR... ONE MONTH. And then all my happiness was taken from me instantly. Every time I do become happy, it's just for a short while...then something screws me out of the happiness again. I'm cursed in life. I'll never be happy for a long period of time. I don't see the point in even being happy at all, if it's just going to be taken from me...because when I do get happy and all happiness is taken from me, I just feel 500 times worse afterward
