They like me, but it means nothing

To cut a long story short - after two and a half years I've been made redundant, and I left last Friday. We went to the pub after work. I for the first time had more than one drink and semi-enjoyed the night. I was flooded with hugs and people saying nice things. Before the last day I managed to ask for and get quite a few phone numbers (still mostly through the internet I'm afraid). But I will likely only see any of them again when I visit them at work, or at the Christmas party. So what's the point? I wanted to say, "I have no friends and no life, so if you like me so much, does anyone here want to meet up, see a film or something? I'm really desperate." But you can't say that can you.

Maybe it's that everyone likes me because I'm shy, but don't actually want to spend any time with me. Is that it? IMHO I'm happy and nice, but that doesn't mean fun to be with, as much as I'd like to be.

I'm the same, people like me because i'm quiet, loyal, won't be horrible to anyone. But they never invite me out to just hang around. If i do get invited out with friends it's always in a group so that they don't have to put up with boring me lol! really makes me feel like shite as i know deep down i am alot of fun, but social phobia is in the way.

*Huge hugs for you* if that's okay.

:)

That's weird, because it happens to me too. I get the impression people see me as a nice guy, generous, funny, someone you can trust... Yet they are not "interested" in me. It must be because while I might be a great guy on the inside, I must look like a loser on the outside.

my situation is really similar except for a few ppl, maybe or 3, no one invite me anywhere unless it's a group thing, but mind you that if we don't invite anyone ourselves they might get the wrong idea too

Yep, just the same. I don't blame people for not wanting to do things with me because I'm not fun, but I know I could be if I was given enough of a chance. Thanks for the hug ;)

I know how this is. I'm only invited out to stuff when I'm convenient. I only have a couple of friends that invite me out to places because they enjoy my company. I think. I still question that one.

There are companions and then there are true companions. We would all know the difference once we've met one. For only the true companions value you for your beliefs and thoughts.

I hope that you are right.

When you go through them there's only about one person I can ask to hang out anyway. Which is sad because I like them all. I have now asked him over Facebook. He has not answered me even though I sent it a day ago. Other people are doing stuff all the time and yet for me to do one little thing is such a struggle.

We won't - I'm not even bothering to get my hopes up this time. I've heard nothing from him so far. I've also sent messages saying 'hi' to a couple of other people as well as a friend request but nobody has written anything to me at all yet. If they're not ignoring me then they're obviously busy doing stuff, unlike me.

I don't know if I manage to sound happy on here but I don't think I'm any happier than you LycraPanties ::(: x

Yep, I'm the same. Have tried the work get togethers but I just disappear into the background. What that girl did was bad :(

Maybe it's just a case of getting in there if you get a moment and asking if they want to hang out? Is it really that simple, just say, "do you want to hang out some time?"

I try to make friends at work because I don't do much outside of work anyways but it seems easier for people who already have friends to do this and after awhile I always feel like an outsider. This affects my job performance too

Does anyone get jelous that other people in their work environment all seem to be in a group but that yet again your the "island". This despite making so much of an effort to be nice to everyone - and yet when it all gets too much and they still go out sociallyyet dont invite you - no surprisingly you get the craps and before you know it the very peple you were trying to befriend is now someone who you despise. Personally, this person at work was i thought a great friend - until she invited everyone out except for me. Oh well navel gazing isnt such a bad thing
