Stereotypes that annoy you

1.Quite people = creepers, arrogant, weirdo's and people with attitudes.

2.Women are B words ,"garden tools",superficial people, want money, liars.

3.Race equals intelligence.

4.That I wash my hair every few months or once a month, some crap like that.

5.Everyone who lives with their parents are lazy.

It annoys me when a society wants a person to be a certain way because of how they look. I see people for their characters and not the way they are supposed to be. When you are supposing someone to be something without directly getting to know them, which is a lack of evidence and an assumption. Just because one is classified with a group that does not mean that they have to behave how that group is widely perceived. That annoys me.

When people think that having a beard means you're scary, oooooooo spooooooky. I know some of the nicest people who have huge decked out beards and might I say we all know a big old jolly dude who has a big old white beard and gives presents to little kids. A big old guy with a beard climbing down you're chimney (which is practically breaking and entering) in the middle of the night isn't as scary as, say old me with a beard walking into 7-11 in the middle of the night to buy some Gatorade? Im so sorry society, for having super sensitive skin that shaving causes mad rashes all over my face

I hate all them without exceptions, I never understood this concept of generalization.

I agree with you there.

I agree with you all. I think having SA and being that one to sit back and observe, I was able to come to many conclusions about the world. I know people try hard to understand everything but sometimes, the way that they get their information if they have not gained certain experiences or can't think outside what they see in the media or from those that they know, then they will use what they think they know. What I know now is that I know nothing about anyone, that some people will be this way and some another and that's not consistant or dependent on characteristics of who they are, people are individuals and there can be shared group dynamics, and never assume. I think some generalizations make people comfortable in a way that makes them think that they know EVERYTHING when they don't.

I completely agree, everyone is different, sure some people may have characteristic that goes with their background but that doesn't everyone does. For example I'm black and yes I love fried chicken does that mean every single black person love fried chicken, or that only black people love fried chicken? Hell I don't even like saying i'm black ( I only used it for the example), colour of the skin as never been relevant to anything.

I hate the dumber stereotypes when they concern what people prefer to eat... It can't get any dumber. I say that, then someone will suggest one that is even dumber, lol.

The whole "make me a sandwich/go back to the kitchen" thing that men like to say about women, especially on the internet. I get that it's supposed to be a "joke" but I've seen it so many times that it's got to the point where it's just not funny (not that it ever was) and simply just sexist. Also, the belief that women don't play video games or that they do not use the internet is a far outdated and ridiculous stereotype.

Agreed on the kitchen jokes.

I also can't stand how some people perceive atheists to be a bunch of hateful, morally-depraved Satan worshippers.

Actually, there are a whole lot of stereotypes I hate. :p

I kind of disagree with the kitchen jokes being some bad. I mean yes they are overused and are not funny in that sense but in no way does it actually represent someones views, so why should it matter?

I guess one thing about potentially offensive jokes that I do hate is when people use them with complete strangers, unless you make it obvious you are just joking the other person is not going to be able to tell if you are joking and they are not somehow stupid for not being able to recognise this.

I think stereotypes are reflections of reality and as some reflections of oneself are closer to reality so are some stereotypes but just as reflections are not a carbon copy of the original so are stereo types also not a true representation of reality.

The best deceptions are ones that are based upon the truth and not lies, stereotypes being similar to reality, thus look like they are reality.

I don't want to live on this planet anymore

That makes two of us.

Though I know there's more. So why are we waiting on that exclusive colony, again?

Haha, judging from the drama that sometimes goes down amongst the members here though, can you imagine that in real life? ::p:

Anyway, sorry. Way off topic. Ahem. I wonder if there's a thread about this already. I'm sure there is.

Oh yes. It's the assumption that really irritates me. They don't ask whether you are interested in a sport (and here in the UK, that almost always means football) they just launch right into asking you what you thought of such and such a game or match. And yeah, when you you try to explain that you didn't see it and have no interest in it, they look at you like they can't quite grasp what you're saying.
