Hi.I have been getting more into mindfulness.Living in the moment and not living in the pass is important. Its suppose to help deal with reoccuring negative thoughts and for me it has helped.

Who else on the site believes in mindfulness to help calm their minds and be more in the present.

Good point. A large part of SA is thinking about what 'may' happen, or is 'going' to happen.

Keeping your mind in the here and now can help combat that.

I'm trying not to worry about the future (as it will be changing soon in a big way). I try to divert my attention from the future, & just try to be content in the present. For me, alcohol helps me to be in the now.

The more present you are, the less worried you are. This takes tons of practice, but being present allows you to work on the things that you can do to avoid things you fear about the future.

Having AvPD, i've always avoided everything, but now i have no choice but to FACE my fears/worries. So i'll have to worry about stuff, then experience the truth about what those things really are in practise, and learn to handle those things that previously i worried/fretted about. But i'm sure i'll still avoid a great many things.

Mindfulness can be pertaining to anything, mindfulness of working...mindfulness of eating etc...it is helpful. But will it lead to ultimate wisdom about understanding mind?

Mindfulness of mind and body is a totally different ball game altogether. Try it...google vipassana...ull understand more things about how mind works....we can be scientists of the mind. And also play games with the monkey mind( for the better to get rid of impurities). No rituals involved with Buddhas teaching, he was the scientist of the mind....and so were all those who "knew thyself".

I found that practicing meditation was super helpful for me. I started doing it daily and in a few months I was able to control my mental presence and totally calm the mind.

I highly recommend.

Learn it under supervision though n also choose the right meditation...I can suggest vipassana courses offered in your area for the right direction in this case.
