I am a former smoker. Not a cheap habit, or a very healthy one. However, I always find it quite alarming when some people show such a hatred for someone when they see that they are smoking. We live in a free country, and cigarette smoking is perfectly legal, and yet some people look at you as if you just kidnapped a baby.
It's fine if you personally don't like it, but if you walk by in an alley way where I am smoking away from everyone, then I personally felt like saying "screw yourself."
I had looks all the time, and even though smoking isn't the greatest thing, the governement in the U.S. is doing their damndest to get the general public to despise and hate smokers. The U.S. Government are hypocritical, as there are so many other posionous and harmful things killing people rather than cigarettes. I think the level of hate and scare tactics leveled at people in some of those commercials are heinous and pathetic. I believe the commercials are for the non-smokers; to drill it into their heads that they should despise smokers. The reason I say that is because every smoker is well aware of the possible risks of over-smoking. Too much of every substance is harmful.
Do you realize how many people are addicted to alcohol? They spend so much money it, it destroys their liver, impairs their thinking, and it burns a hole through their wallet even faster than cigarettes. Yet where is the government onslaught against people addicted to alcohol? This problem is just as great, if not greater than tobacco addiction. Not only drunk driving is a problem, but the actual health crisis that happen when people are addicted to it. My dad is a chronic alcoholic, and his health has declined to a dismal state.
If you hate smokers you have been decieved by the U.S. Government or other government to believe that smokers are vile and disgusting people. This is not true.
