Do girls like being told they are beautiful

I like being told that i am beautiful if it is a genuine from the heart compliment and not just said to gain some thing.

I've never personally had this compliment, but I know that if I did I'd freeze up with no clue how to react.

I think Kinetik said something similar, but there's something about compliments on appearance being...how should I put this...kind of the expected norm or obvious compliment to give someone you like and thus, although the sentiment's very sweet if sincere, I'd imagine it'd be hard for the one receiving it to tell exactly how sincere it really is. If it were me, I'd be afraid I might take it too much to heart and then realize it wasn't meant as seriously as I had assumed. Especially as experience has taught that such things can often be used as a joke or a dare.

Then there's unfamiliarity, which can be a bit threatening. I don't see a beautiful image when I see my reflection, so someone telling me otherwise would call my self-beliefs into question. I wouldn't be sure who to believe or how to tell for certain and I'm actually afraid to reevaluate my views of myself. It sounds odd, but when you believe something about yourself for long enough, however negative it may be, it becomes familiarity and safety in a sense. Taking a chance on something new is dangerous, uncertain ground and could be the cause of some very mixed feelings.

I'd also be afraid that I don't know how to show proper gratitude - either sounding too enthusiastic which can come off as fake or egotistical, or else my awkwardness would make me not sound enthusiastic enough which would come off as ingratitude instead.

I don't know whether my reactions would be relevant or similar in any way to other girls' reactions, but I'm just throwing my thoughts out there incase.

I think that most people like to receive a compliment, but some just don't know how to take it. I think that if the girl actually believes that she is beautiful, or even just believes what you are saying she'll in most cases appreciate it. If you don't believe what they're saying, or have any idea why they'd say that to you, it can be quite awkward. It can be weird when you have no idea to react. I don't know that I don't like it, it just makes me feel really uncomfortable.

Well I know I do because it makes me feel a lot better about myself because I'm a bit doubtful sometimes about my appearance because I was bullied so much growing up and was called ugly.

With an honest compliment, and no hidden intention, I usually turn into a bumbling fool, smile a little and blush a lot.

Compliment when you mean it, not to get something, and feel confident about it because you're doing it for them and not yourself. Something as such.

Awesome, then I think I'll keep thinking about something I might do... there's been someone I've been pretty much ignoring for the first semester, and I'd like to go up to her on the last day of lab and say "Hey, sorry for being so cold to you like the whole semester, I'm just get nervous around really pretty girls". And with that walk away and never see her again :-D If I ever had the courage to do this I would be so proud of myself -_-

Well, I have told in total of three women that they are beautiful. One took it well, I think she may have loved me, but I am not sure. One felt uncomfortable with it, and asked me "really...?" and simply disregarded it. The other one went off the rails and started shouting at me that I only liked her for her body. Sorry to whinge, not a stab at females or anything, I only asked because I get so confused at what to say and how to act... I simply want to pay a genuine compliment and get an expected response back.... I dont throw out "your beautiful" to just anyone you know..

And yes there are some simply stunning female members on the site, inside and out.... thanks peeps!
