i was forever single when i was younger, and it sucked
so i married the first woman i managed to get into any kind of a relationship with
that ended up sucking worse
but i was afraid to get out of it - didn't really know how
until i met another woman who showed me that things could be different
so i went from the frying pan into the fire
and that sucked the most - until she left me, and i wanted to die
but i got comfortable being single again, and it didn't suck so bad
then i met someone i could just date and keep things easy and casual
so half the time i am alone, and half the time i'm not...
sometimes one sucks and sometimes the other one does
i'm still trying to figure out the balance
maybe i never will
Sounds like you have found little of something very nice. That's certainly better than a lot of pain, being in an unhealthy relationship. I can relate to that for sure. Thanks for the wise words!!

the thing is to not assume that the alternative is always better
If your single for to long like I am it starts to really be uncomfortable
I don't want to embarrass myself by saying how long, but I know what you mean. I think a part of me feels very desperate. It's like walking in the desert without water, gazing at the mirages of my daydreams.
This sort of thing used to concern me for most of my 20s and 30s. Then I got really unwell, and I had different things to worry about, like survival. For most of my 40s this hasn't been an issue. And as I enter my 50s even less so. It is kind of a relief.
