Taking the right approach? Probanthine and Botox

Hello All,

First post here. I've suffered from generalised hyperhidrosis since ****rty, but it is sweating from the head that I found most difficult to live with. Currently, I don't really enjoy life as such rather just exist. Like many I avoid lots of things because of the embarrassment I feel when sweating heavily. It doesn't take too much to set me off and it dominates my thinking......

I've tried lots of different solutions with limited success: Aluminium Chloride antiperspirants, hypnotherapy, psychotherapy etc.

My Gp (I live in the Uk) is very supportive and currently I take probanthine for situations where I know I'm likely to be most nervous / sweaty. It is largely effective and I feel so much happier when I know I'm going to not stand out / be dripping.

However because of the dry mouth / need to take on an empty stomach etc I don't think I can realistically take it all the time. I therefore have the following questions. Apologies they these repeat things that have been posed on this forum many times before, but I'd welcome thoughts

1) do you think robinul would offer more / be more effective / better tolerated than probanthine or is it quite dependent on the individual and what is good for one is not necessarily good for another?

2) might botox for the scalp work? I know the cost of this is likely to be prohibitive but has anyone had this done / has it worked?

Many thanks for your help.

1) I have been taking probanthine for last 5 years or so and can't say I experience the dry mouth problem much (unless I take loads and don't eat anything all day) but I am about to start robinul so will give you some feedback on difference when I start it (Im waiting for them to get in hospital pharmacy).

I always chew gum and I find this helps with the dry mouth, maybe worth trying if haven't already.
But i know what you mean when you got like dry throat and trying to eat for example and you can't there isn't really anything can do to help that

Hello Tea and Toast.

Many thanks for the reply. Can I ask why you are moving from probanthine to robinul? Has the probanthine stopped working or is it a case of seeing if the robinul is even more effective?

Thanks again.
