Sweaty hands and a musician???

Musicians historically are sweaty people on stage. It adds to the "street cred" for a rocker. The more you sweat, the more it appears that you are into your music, and therefore your "sex appeal".

But, practically, if you have hyperhidrosis in the hands, it can get pretty expensive for guitar players. I go thru strings like they're going out of style. When I play guitar, my hands sweat so much (as they do when I am not playing guitar), that the sweat develops rust on my strings. So, most people who play guitar can go a couple of months without changing strings, but I have to change strings every 3 weeks, otherwise the sound quality is compromised.

Am I the only one?

Let's hear from some musicians with hyperhidrosis.

Peace out,

I used to play the flute in school. It used to get so dirty all the time, and when I was playing it, I could feel the sweat trickling down my wrist. That was when it was at its worst.

I found I could hardly play the guitar when my hands were wet. I just found it too uncomfortable with my fretting hand so there was a period of time when I hardly played at all.

I have played guitar for as long as I can remember and for as long as I can remember my hands have been sweating all over the place. It can get pretty frustrating and I know what you mean about the strings developing rust in only a few days. I gave up on changing strings and just play with them all rusty. To be honest I actually don't mind the sound quality. It just sounds a little softer. What really bothers me is that I would really like to jam a lot more with my friends and maybe even play some shows but its obviously quite embarrassing when your hands are sweating all over your's or your friends guitars.
