Sweat some days? Dry other days?

Hello everyone.

I am 18 and I've had hyperhidrosis pretty much my entire life. I'm tired of it. I'm close to giving up, but I won't until I've tried everything I can.

I've tried Ionto, herbal, drysol, acupuncture, glyco etc.

I don't think Hyperhidrosis has to do with anxiety, at least in my case. I think it has to do with how I wake up or what I eat the day before. But I don't know.

If I wake up sweating, I sweat throughout the entire day. If I wake up dry, I'm dry throughout the entire day. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I really appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hi @Chubbs!

Just like you I have HH as long as I can remember and I'm also 18.

When I wake up sweating I also mostly sweat throughout the entire day. When I wake up without being sweaty then I'm sometimes dry for a day, but sometimes I just start sweating immidiately after I wake up or in the afternoon. And once I'm sweaty I mostly won't get dry the same day.

I also tried accupuncture. I think it helped for me, because before I tried accupuncure I never really had sweatfree days, and now I do have sweatfree days sometimes. What is your experience with accupuncture?

When I was younger and before I tried accupuncture, I started sweating when I only thought about sweating. I do not think HH is anxiety only, mostly when I'm sweating I do not feel anxious, but when I'm anxious I do sweat more.

Please don't give up! To me HH is also a mystery, but as soon as I find something that really works I will let you know:)

Hi @Fruit

Your response makes me smile but also sad that someone out there is like me.

I have been taking detailed logs and diary of what I do through the entire days in hopes of pinpointing what the cause of sweating is. As you said, there are three likely scenarios from my experiences:

1.) Wake up dry and stay dry throughout the day
2.) Wake up dry and begin sweating immediately or within a minute, sweating throughout the day.
3.) Wake up sweating and sweat throughout the day.

And once I'm sweaty I've also found it nearly impossible to become dry, unless by chance.

I did not find any real effect from acupuncture, however, I did not continue it for long as it was quite uncomfortable.

When I was younger, everyone told me sweating was anxiety induced. Through time, I've realized that is most likely not true. I don't sweat because I'm nervous. However, if I'm sweating, anxiety will make it worse just as you said. I relate to you so much it makes me sad.

Thank you for your response. I appreciate it.

It's a very common scenario for those of us with HH. For the most part our nervous system is a little off balance putting us into fight and flight response quicker than most. We sweat, we become nervous. It's a very common theme with HH.

But why do I wake up dry some days? Why don't I sweat every day? The fact that I have some dry days gives me hope... but then that hope always vanishes the next day...

It's very possible you have secondary HH caused by another underling problem. Have you spoken to a doctor?

@Chubbs these 3 scenarios are actually the 3 scenarios of my life!

I have also been thinking it is my thyroid, because some of my relatives also have thyroid problems. I went to the doctor to check my thyroid, but he says my thyroid is working as it should. I'm not completely convinced as long as I do not know what the cause of my HH is.
The only thing they can do to check my thyroid is check my blood values, does anyone know any other way to check if my thyroid is working as it should?

One of my relatives also has thyroid problems, I'm also pretty sure there is a link. A lot of people seem to have this correlation.

I also was not very convinced when when the doctor said my thyroid levels are "normal."
I'm not sure if it has to do with diet anymore as I've been tracking it exclusively, but maybe I just haven't noticed a pattern yet.

Do most HH Sufferers, sweat every day all the time? Or are there others of you who just sweat some days? Thanks

Most of us with HH never get a break unless a particular treatment is working for us. 50+ years of sweating for me.

@Sprawing wow. That is hard to hear. How have you managed all these years. Just looking for people to connect with I guess... Are there any tips/advice you could share with a youngster like me?

Thanks

I suffered in silence for many years. Found love, married, child, divorced, relationships. The biggest change was in 2005 when I discovered Ionto treatments. I also told friends and family about my HH. It's like this big cloud was lifted and now I have no problem talking about HH with people. It was a group like this that really help guide me. It was amazing to read other peoples stories as if they were my own.

HH impacted my life in huge ways. Career wise was tough since sweaty hands are a pain to deal with. Somehow I managed, became self employed at some point and carried on. I'm not saying it was easy... just challenging when there was no one who I was able to talk to about it.

I feel the exact same as this. Some days I'm completely fine, start dry and pretty much dry throughout the whole day, feels soooo good! but then if I start sweating in the morning pretty much the whole days feels like that. I just wrote a post on my insight into hyperhidrosis and my experience. My belief it all has to do with the body being stuck in the sympatheic nervous system and the previous nights sleep. When I pass out for being completely smashed I mean really smashed I find it is a lot more common that I'll be dry the next day. As this dulls the nervous system.

Maybe not the best way to deal with it. Once in a while if it helps.... as long as you are not drinking and driving.

Haha I don't use it as a treament method, nor do I get that drunk that often, just something I noticed. It would be interesting studying the physiology behind it.

Any other people experiencing the same thing? Yesterday, I woke up and I stayed dry. I have no idea why. Today, I woke up dry, and started sweating within 5 minutes. And every time it happens, all my hope from the previous day is lost and I am torn.

Anticipatory anxiety sweating. It can be the slightest simple trigger. Going to school, work, just about anything. The body gets prepared for the flight or fight response.

Example for me: Knowing I have to go to the doctor 2 weeks in advance can trigger sweating. Ionto helps tremendously for the hands, yet my body will react some other way, sweat some other place. It's a terrible cycle.
