Im really insecure about my smile so I dont do it a lot. I try to look like Im busy with something all the time, or in a rush, so people dont approach me. the other day I went into a shop to get breakfast and the guy behind the counter said "you have a beautiful smile, you should show it more" as he handed me my order.

I was taken aback. Im never complimented by guys and especially not on my smile, my teeth arent the best looking and it makes me face look fat. I wasnt sure if he took my rushed attitude as upset/stressed and was trying to cheer me up or if he really thought I was pretty.

I can never tell with these types of things!

Me too. Smiling makes me feel ridiculous, it's just easier to look neutral and distracted because otherwise my neutral face looks rather vacant :|

At least you're not one of those creepy people who smiles all the ****ing time!!!

If you ever do learn to smile, please promise me that you won't become one of those "superficial" people who never doesn't smile!

In 7th grade, I had a teacher who always smiled NO MATTER WHAT, the smile was obviously fake, it was really dumb, and it NEVER EVER WENT AWAY!! Then one day, all the kids were nagging her to give them less homework and SHE JUST SNAPPED!!! She started throwing books everywhere, screaming, cursing the students, and WE NEVER SAW HER AGAIN after that. LOL, I'm not even joking, that really did happen!! NO JOKE!

<- Me too. I hate smiling I always think my smile sucks, or that I'm faking a smile. I mean it always seems like an act, that I have to put effort into even smiling. What's up with that!

I never have any idea about things like that either. Though it does seem like he probably meant what he said.

I have trouble with smiling, too, though not because I think I look worse when doing it. It's really hard for me to smile (or show any type of emotion, really). It's hard to smile "on cue" just because others think I'm supposed to. Sometimes I will smile if it's just natural... if somethings funny or something. But usually, even if I am happy about something, it never shows on my face. Because of that, people are always telling me to "cheer up" & saying things like "Why do you look so sad?" & "It can't be that bad...." It annoys me because I can actually be happy at the time when they say things like that, it just doesn't show.

You can't fake a smile. The give away that a smile is fake is the eyes; With a genuine smile the skin around the eyes wrinkle up whereas with a fake smile only the mouth moves. I'm always self conscious about how my smile appears.

I was always complimented on at work for being the 'only one who smiles'. Weird, cos I have braces and I hate them to infinity (seriously, I'm 22!!!!! I look about 14 with jaws of steel... *grumbleyrumbley*). Generally I was so thrilled to be successfully interacting with people that the smile would be genuine ^^, Maybe that outweighs the MetalFAceOfDooooom!!!! :p

I just hate smiling for pictures.

Everyone always tells me I have a beautiful smile. I neither agree nor disagree.
