Shaking..

Hello There,

Today I turned on my webcam to a friend, and my whole body was Shaking.
She said why do you shake, I said , because I'm anxious.
She said, But ''how Come?''
But I couldnt give an answer.

I really wanna know why I feel this way in social situations.
Is there any better explanation then say ''i'm anxious?''

I really want other's to understand, but I can't give a good explanation.
Also my therapist asks for these kind of answers, but I really don't know how to explain.

SA is hard to explain..

I do this too. I wish I had some good advice on how to stop it, hopefully someone else does.
I usually just tell people Im cold, because I do get cold when it happens. Almost like Im going into shock.

I was taking a test where I had to write or fill in the blanks for my exam, and the more that I shook the worse it got. It almost got to a point where I couldn't even read my own handwriting... My doctor said it was "tremors", and I know that I shake but this is getting ridiculous....

I noticed that when I shake, there's nothing I can do to stop it, because I think it's the adrenaline that my body has produced: I don't just shake, I just feel "excited", "aroused", "alert", like I am in real danger, like I am facing a lion and I had to run, like a gunman is chasing me. Why? Because we are just nervous, we just worry too much about what others think about us, we worry so much that we unconsciously think it's like we are going to die... we compare someone's judgement to a a gunman.

We should learn that we are not going to die anyway. If someone tells us we are stupid losers, at the end of the day we are still alive and nothing has changed. We need to train our brains and bodies to focus on what really matters. I bet that if we were in Africa where people die of starvation, maybe working as volunteers there, we would have really important things to worry about, and we would not think "OMG, I'm ugly, omg I'm stupid, omg I am shaking..." as much as we do now.

So what's the best way to stop shaking? You just have to convince yourself that shaking is alright, there's nothing wrong with shaking. You are not going to die and you are not killing anyone or committing any crime.

I sometimes shake when I'm nervous/anxious too. It's usually when I'm at someone else's house and we're talking about a subject that makes me nervous.

I was always very self conscious about my shaking. I guess I just stopped caring/realised its alright to shake. Everyone does it, just different things for different people.

I'd say go see a doctor if you haven't already just to get checked out, this will also put your mind at ease (did for me). As people have said here you come across confident on youtube so its obviously just your thoughts getting in the way.
I used to hate webcam but maybe start using it all the time. Even when you feel like ****, thats when I like to step up and prove to myself that anxiety has no hold on me :)

If you are suffering from a tremor then this could well be due to a neurological disorder called essential tremor. This is relatively harmless but obviously is embarrassing and can cause anxiety and social withdrawal. A head tremor is a fairly typical symptom of essential tremor (as is a tremor in the hands, arms or trunk but it can actually manifest anywhere).

Tremor could indicate other underlying medical issues though, so it's important to go and have it diagnosed by a doctor - they can run blood tests to confirm it's not an issue such as over-active thyroid and physical tests to check it's not Parkinson's. If needs be there are further tests that can be run. This may well be embarrassing but it is important to do it. If your doctor is not helpful then find another - these are well documented disorders and you can find more info on essential tremor on the web.

There are treatments available that can greatly reduce the effects and your doctor should be able to recommend something. Just being informed alone may help you to understand and manage this embarrassing condition.

I hope this information is useful.
