It's truly sad to hear how such a great musician's life could end. He will be missed, but his music will live on forever

Hie yer hence from me heath!
Damn! Just when I was coming to terms with Lemmy dying. They both died shortly after their birthdays too. :crying:

Another great loss to music. There will never be another like David Bowie
In a league all his own, made music on his terms. Always reinventing his image and doing summit different musically with each album. At least, he gave 2 great albums worth and more of unique music before his passing.

Bowie was one of my early inspiration to pickup a guitar too.

On the plus side, us fans have a back catalogue of music to listen to and appreciate what a musical genius he was. Sorry if that sounds like pseudo-intellectual wank to some of youse... but ah don't care.

My oldest sister was a huge Bowie fan, like more diehard and obsessed than myself. She must've been in tears hearing the news of his death.

I've been meaning to pay my respects in some formal, public way .. so here i am...

Had an all-nighter "bowie-fest" session the other night. Basically listened to (via youtube) the first dozen of his albums (over ~10 hrs). Much of the songs i'd never heard before. So in a sense i'm "catching up" on the last ~40 years of bowie music. I'd heard the popular songs on the radio over the years while growing up, but the last decade/so i'd hardly listened to his music. I had a taped-off-cd tape of changes bowie compilation album, and a tape of early bowie songs. But he had quite a bit more quality music than just the popular songs - as i'm finding out.

Tonight i'm on my 2nd "bowie-fest" session, listening to some more albums. I don't want to stop! lol. Am collecting all the links off youtube, for the full albums, individual songs, and compilation albums. Am thinking i might do my own compilation, consisting of probably all songs off changesbowie compilation album, as well as several other really good songs i've heard in past few days. Maybe i could create >1 compilations, eg "oldest" (1967-69), "funky", "instrumental", "fripp", "modern", etc. And then i guess i could create playlists & share them on my youtube page (that i will create).

But about the "relationship" i had with "david bowie", like all things involving people its extremely complicated/confusing - that is, its beyond words, so i'll leave it at that. But the relationship was REAL FINE QUALITY, even though it wasn't "real"; but i've always related to music & things WAY better than with people.

And about his latest work, i am quite "blown away" by it. It's certainly a masterpiece, and is very thought-provoking, and pretty "way-out" also. So, considering he was suffering from cancer in the later stages, it's TRULY ASTOUNDING how he managed to pull-off this one last creative masterpiece. And leave everyone guessing, which was always his style (you know, about whether its satanism/occult/etc). So, WELL DONE i say!!! (for this last work, and his entire creative life)

So, thanks for all the music & the memories & the "friendship", DB (& crew). Rest in peace, Sir Thin White Duke. :applause:

I've related to Bowie a lot, and I'm a huge fan, so I was kind of jolted when I heard he was dead.

His best albums IMO are:
Ziggy Stardust - the apex of his glam rock phase, what got me into him. Probably his best.
Hunky Dory - more piano-y, sorta an Elton John vibe at times.
Low - more experimental, hard to describe, but some of the tracks are like ambient/neoclassical stuff.

I think David Bowie was probably the coolest musician ever. King of Cool. I feel bad that I have not listened to him in awhile. His voice is amazing, like in China Girl...makes me feel funny it is so sexy and lovely he does amazing things vocally.
What a sad yr this is turning out to be.
