Post your random thoughts/feelings etc

All you need to do is like in the Scripture 'Come all you who are weary and heavy-laden and i will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.' have you ever thought of joining a church and being committed, trying to talk to other christians and to sing? that will be a start

I'm unsure, as i have tried going to church (i did a course). It was ok, but i can't say it "clicked" with me, as i'm more scientifically-minded. But perhaps i have changed.

Ignorance is the second thing - just behind Child Abuse - that makes my blood boil.
An ignorant person never used to get me so angry. I am still trying to figure out what exactly has changed me, to make this happen. :idontknow:

There could be so many possibilities as to why people grasp onto their ignorance with such force.
Is it because they are living their life making a sub-conscious choice to only seeing what they want to see?
Is it because they need their narrow, limited views, to keep them sane in this complicated life?
Is it their brains way of maintaining their survival, at any cost?

I keep swaying between anger and sympathy.

Sorry to hear that you're feeling angry but really you shouldn't be as everyone has the right to their own opinion.

In the past if I remember right, in posts you've talked about how you believe that IQ is a fairly concrete thing, and that people's intelligence are given to them at birth. Perhaps you are seeing this differently now? If one's ignorance or intelligence is out of their control, then it is harder to blame them for the ideas they hold, and the actions they take based on them. But if not, and a little time and perspective was all that was needed to transform an ignorant mentality into one without ignorance? It's a lot harder then to give people a pass for adamantly holding ideas that hurt other people.

You want to know how I got these scars?
Science can explain many of the HOWS in life but it cant explain the WHYS. It can be explained how neurotransmitters interact with synapses but no one can explain WHY this happens.

For example, Why was there a tsunami in Indonesia in 2004?

Geological process that created a tsunami. It just so happened to hit land where a high density population of the human species lived. If it had happened say, 2 million years ago there would have been no 'tragedy' as humans hadn't settled there, certainly not on mass.

These things happen regardless of where and what we as a species live and do.

The earth and it's processes are not conscious. It has no willpower. If you say there is indeed someone/thing that controls these processes, you must have had some proof of this?

If you do, I would love to see this. I have no issue with believing in a god (whatever the current or accepted model of a god that may be) but I would need proof that can stand up to scrutiny from those with unbiased views.

The sun. I see it. I know it's there physically. I feel it. Worshiping the sun currently has more credibility. Those within religious circles always provide 'wishy washy' 'evidence' or answer questions with questions.

I have no problem with people or religions in general. But I do feel some on this site feel they can use it as a platform to preach.

That's fine though, so long as I can express my views too.

'Pushing forward'... in what ways exactly gates?

In a lot of ways. One of them is by people of high status (like doctors who are also award winning authors) giving due credit to the fact that there are unknown forces existing in the world that even science cant fully explain.

laurinbellg ; )

(Again, the example of speech and language comprehension is relevant. So-called "experts" still cant decide if the Brocha's area controls most of our speech production or if this function is shared more with the wernerke's area)

AND by people building giant cathedrals all over the place ...haha....like the one that was just built about 45 minutes away from here. They just opened their doors RECENTLY and their amount of charitable giving is already through the roof. like habitat for humanity, among other programs they're running.

Yeah there were some people who were pissed off about it being built in the first place but ....You dont want to see a new cathedral in your city? dont look at it.

Next...

"The earth and it's processes are not conscious. It has no willpower."

That opinion is pretty much JUST as subjective as my belief in a god

Lastly, humans are hardwired to be curious and make new discoveries.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4635443/ . A person's mind won't stop pondering something simply because it more philosophical and/or hasnt been proven by the most skilled scientific "experts" of the modern world. Humans will always have the drive to explore the unknown and that INCLUDES the concept of a higher power.

Do you think robert hooke would have discovered the existence of cells if his curiosity of the unknown hadn't driven him to it?

Whether your curiosity is scientific, philosophical, or a bit of BOTH its a part of human nature and its one of the many reasons why humans are the most advanced species on earth....and I dont think thats just some crazy coincidence. If religion wasnt relevant in society then it wouldnt still be around .

The mere PRESENCE of religion in society stokes people's philosophical curiosities which, in turn, causes many of them to theorize on the questions/mysteries of life..and that LEADS to new discoveries.

Alright now im REALLY done.

are you joking right now?

Have you heard of ISIS? -_- There is NO other religious group in recent history who have committed such atrocities on as large a scale as they did. They have zero tolerance for people of other religions...and I mean ZERO. They werent just out offending people with their opinions.

Also, i'd lay into all the flawed idealogical concepts of satanism but....nah...they're not a big deal.

but oh man, those terrible christians..* shiver * -_- https://www.facebook.com/stjude/videos/p.10213213281838344/10213213281838344/?type=2&theater

P.S. "Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago."

This is precisely why I cannot stand Christians - there's no room for any other religion but theirs. It's just like in Beauty and The Beast where Gaston leads the villagers to attack Beast for no reason other than lies.

https://youtu.be/Tx7aik6t_J4
Exactly why I can't stand to hear an atheist babble on about why my religion is just a bunch of "fairy tales" and "lies". And it's not fair to me, Jinxed, or atthegates to say all Christians are bad apples. Stop it with the insults.

Then show some respect to those of us who don't believe in Christianity and stop talking about it. This is why religion has been blacklisted from conversation topics - it causes waves.

Yeah lets just throw the 1st amendment right out the window.

No freedom of speech allowed, folks! -_-

lol

Seriously though, If you dont like a post about religion then just ignore it and don't respond to it. Its that simple. No waves needed. Christianity is actually the most persecuted religion in the world as of 2017 so its no surprise to me that people want it blacklisted anywhere possible.

anyway, feel free to ignore this comment...or dont...Your choice. * shrug *

4. Global This forum is a world forum, so members should respect each others religious and cultural differences, this also requires athiests and religious members to show respect when debating

https://socialphobiaworld.com/site-rules-26653/

I don't feel like we're respecting each other right now guys. I don't think there's anything wrong with all of us having different things we believe in, but I don't think treating each other like this is helping.

Maybe it would be a good idea to keep these thoughts to special religion threads? I know there are some on the forum already, and making a new thread is easy enough to make. I think Sarah is right that these types of conversations causes waves, so maybe keeping it off the most posted in thread may be a good idea. It'll be easier for only the people interested in having a conversation about it to be involved I think.

I know I feel off put when reading a string of posts like the ones above me, and it makes it harder to talk about other things. I don't know if I'm the only one who feels this way, maybe I am and if I am over-reacting I apologize.

This is a good rule.

basically what happened is I tried to speak my mind about my religious beliefs and then a bunch of other people had something generally negative to say about it. ..but some of them were respectful.

Thats pretty much fine with me though because I believe in freedom of speech but anyway.

so how about this: If I make a thread about christianity you can all take a run at me with your opposing comments and intolerant disdain of religion..... (but i'll still win) ; ) haha

one last thing before I censor myself: This is real bad stuff, you guys.. -_- Chemotherapy for FREE? What could have possibly motivated them to do that?
