The other day the Google Cardboard VR case came in the mail, and I've been playing with it on and off for a little while.

What the Google Cardboard case looks like when it's constructed. I've laminated it with tape myself
because I can't stand to touch paper and cardboard. Per design it's bare cardboard.

It's literally a cardboard box with lenses in it, which uses your phone's screen/accelerometers to create a very cheap virtual reality kit. It's a similar technique that Oculus used in their Rift DK1, but with far less sophisticated hardware, of course.

This scene right here has particularly vivid 3D.

First thing that struck me, the double-screen 3D is far, far superior to the 3D interlaced kind for which you need glasses (which I hate with a passion.) I could even watched a small bit of Avatar 3D on it, something I was unable to do on my 3D monitor.

Even my mom, who is normally not interesting in technology at all, more or less marvelled that she could look around in an environment that had such convincing 3D. I showed her Google Earth, zoomed in on a village and some mountains.

The phone's limited hardware did make it simulation sickness inducing after a few minutes, but that's to be expected. There's a reason why companies like Oculus spend millions on research and prototypes, a off the shelf phone simply won't suffice with long term use. But as a simple toy and proof of concept, it's quite incredible.

So because we no longer live in the wild and no longer have to hide from hungry Lions or run from Grizzly Bears some of us need to find challenging life threatening experiences to keep the adrenaline flowing huh?

"There is a risk of gagging on the cinnamon, especially if it forms a clump and clogs one's airways. Accidental inhalation of cinnamon can seriously damage the lungs[3] by causing inflammation and leading to infection."

......hmmm, I think I'll give that a miss.:eek:mg:

I just did it. Had somebody video it with my phone. Can't figure out how to upload it

My son wanted to do the cinnamon challenge a couple years ago. I made him do a different one first... the Italian seasoning challenge. (not as easily inhaled.) He couldn't swallow it, it was so funny! Needless to say he gave up on his cinnamon challenge dream. I made a video of it, but I look like a dweeb so I'll spare you (and me!)

Going on a week-long vacation this Sunday. I don't like this, I'll be sharing a house (and possibly a room) with 5 other people, 3 of which I'm not comfortable around. I'm going to have a lot of bowel pain starting on day 3/4 and I will have a very difficult time with the "end task" related to the bowels. If it were just 4 days my bowels would kinda shut down and I'd do it back home, but I can't do that if I'm staying 7 days. And since I'm with 5 people, I feel like I'll never have the privacy I need.

 I couldn't fathom why these challenges are so popular, I think you've gone some way towards answering it

Renovations start in 8 days. I have a lot of work to do between now and then, and fear opening my world up to someone else even if it is my sister.
