people who whisper

I can't stand people who whisper especially right next to me. It makes me feel really uncomfortable. Most of the time they're saying something negative anyway. Isn't this highly annoying? :(

I feel the same way. I assume they are talking about me and it makes me uncomfortable to not know what people are saying. I also feel rude if I attempt to eavesdrop, even though I want to know what they are talking about to ensure it's not.

I feel uncomfortable whether people next to me whisper or speak in a normal voice. When someone faces to towards me talking to another person next to me, it feels like he/she is actually looking at me so I get very uncomfortable. For example, today at a restaurant there was a guy sitting 2-3 chairs away from me talking to a kid sitting next to me. He spoke in a normal voice. For some reason, I feel very uncomfortable even though this guy is actually speaking to the kid, but also looking towards my direction since the kid sits next to me. I kept shifting in my seat, sometimes shaking. He must have thought I was crazy.

I am the same, it annoys me, suggests they are being secretive dishonest manipulative.

I believe the only socially acceptable places to whisper are in a court room or in a church service. Other than those two places, to me, it's rude and I just don't like it.

Often they just say something private that has nothing to do with you. You jsut think that it's something negative. It's in your head.

It's incredibly frustrating, I agree.

But it important to remember that people have as much right to discus things privately no matter where they are. It's more rude to expect to hear everyone's conversations for personal assurance in my honest opinion.

Some people abuse privacy/anonymity to poke fun - but this isn't everybody. In most cases it's better to assume it isn't about you unless you have plausible reason to think otherwise.
