Hi, i know how that feels.
as hard as it seems try and stay calm as much as possible in times where you feel 'at peace' try and rest up.
eating is probably the last thing on your mind at the moment .. but try to low blood sugar can make symptoms a 100 x worse...

If your arent on any medication then maybe a trip to the doctors?? they maybe able to prescribe something to help you relax.. i dnt like medication in the sense of anti depressants but at my worse point i was given some meds just to take the edge of the attacks..

i would def say tho try and ride them out.. and use the 'in between' points of relative calmness to recharge your batteries x i hope this helps x

Talk to someone around you if there is one. A family member, maybe there's someone you could ring and chat to? If not, I find that writing out or typing my frustrations and worries really helps. I just start writing and often by the end of the page I've found out what's bothering me in particular and I feel relieved, like there's a weight of my shoulders.
It will pass, try not to get pulled down constantly telling yourself how awful you feel. You just need distractions.
Feel better!

Thank you for the advice, it really sucks that I can't calm myself down. I try and nothing seems to help. The talking on the phone while driving helps and talking to my family helps, but others like now I can't stop the attack and it is really scary.

I forgot I am on Wellbutrin and Xanax when needed, I still get them so I am wondering if anyone ever went to see a therapist about them?

Hi, sad to say but I can really relate to what you're experiencing.
I work a lot with the general public to earn a living so you can imagine the problems!
A few weeks ago I was just about to meet a client and it started.
This might be familiar to you. My heart rate increased and I became much more aware of my heart beating in my chest. I then started to feel nauseous and was sure I would vomit - thankfully I didn't as I was sat in my car at the time....
I also found it difficult to focus on anything.
All the while this was accompanied by chest pains.... a kind of churning sensation in different areas of my chest.
Overall I'd say this lasted for about 20 minutes and I was late for my appointment.. Aargh...
I've read up on this and from what I can gather it sounds like my bodies fight/flight mechanism is kicking in.
Right now I'm looking at various therapies so will keep this thread updated.
Hang on in there... you are not alone!

Hi shorty, My only advice is that if you are fed up with medications or want to try something else, try yoga. I posted a similar reply on chemboy's thread (right next to yours). I tried it and found it useful. You can try it out too and if it benefits, pass on the msg. to anyone looking for alternative therapies. The site I recommend - The international yogalyam - www.discover-yoga-online.com/yoga-training.html.

massage is also a very powerful way
to combat panic attacks.

combine it with meditating exercise
and support It's pretty powerful

...

If you can, it helps to exercise -I like to run when I'm having a panic attack.

Unfortunately, this isn't always feasable; it's somewhat difficult to drop everything and go for a jog during the middle of your work/school day.

But then, there's the dreaded panic attack when you're exhausted. Even worse: restless legs!!!

Panic Attacks

For what it is worth, a family member suffered very similar panic attacks and tried just about every self help approach around (I can't remember whether she tried yoga).

In the end she bought The Linden Method, which is not cheap, but it comes with comprehensive counselor support and a full money back guarantee and it worked for her. You can find it at http://www.panic-anxiety.com. Have a look and judge for yourself.

Meditation will help. Also, exercising at home, this would help you to feel at ease with higher heart rates. But I suggest you to not try running when exposed to the stimuli that cause you attacks, this can worsen things.
