well,

i thought i would ask this because it seems quite strange that i do this. anyways, i get in my car to aimlessly drive around in circles putting on 50 to 100 miles daily. most often i may be driving somewhere specific only to make long detours, and sometimes wont even arrive to where i was intending. sometimes this occurs in the mornings before work and sometimes after, or during lunch, or even just random times of the day. Monetarily speaking, i am sure i spend at least $600 a month in my gas guzzler. my issue is not the money, of course i would like to spend it elsewhere, but rather the miles and time wasted driving aimlessly. could this be a ocd? How can i combat this behavior?

thanks,
J

it definitely helps clear my mind. i have no fear of anything. i think i striclty do it because i enjoy driving around, but doesnt seem the most productive way to deal with "clearing my mind." i wonder if it has turned into a counterproductive way to deal with stresses or to relax. any thoughts? any ways to combat this mode of releasing stress. it is very difficult to change. please let me know. for me it seems ocd-ish and i feel this is uncontrollable for me. Please help.

Tell me this, what is the reason for you doing this? I mean, what's the reason in your mind? whether it's irrational or rational.. Why do you feel the need to drive around aimlessly.. Do you get anxiety if you don't?

If it bothers you NOT to drive around, then it sounds like OCD.. but usually people with OCD have a reason for their actions whether it's irrational or not.. they are usually doing it to relieve distress. I'm learning bigtime how to get rid of my OCD.. It's working SO well..

After watching this video, it helped me out tremedousely. There's a key to "changing" the way your brain thinks.. if you have an hour, watch this.. Dr. Phillipson is VERY knowledgeable
