Not really O/T: Playing computer games (Computer Tech Savy only)

I hope you're not expecting this to be cheap...

I found that one that will play the game just fine. Not perfect, but better than a PS3 or 360 could ever dream of.

Edit: link was broken...

i was thinking about getting this game too , looks very good

Those are the hardware requirements to play the game , real time 3d graphics are quite demanding these days , Dual Core 2.2GHz is a processor , NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 is a graphic card . Do you plan on getting a new laptop to play games ?

It really depends on your budget , running 3d Games require a graphic card , and most of the games these days require a good cpu also. The graphics in PC games can usually be adjusted , if your graphic card isn't strong enough you might be able to play on the lowest settings , but to play the games at maximum settings with beautiful graphics and decent framerates you need good hardware.

Notebooks aren't the best for gaming , so if you don't really need the portability i suggest getting a desktop system. But if you do , make sure you have a good graphic card , a decent cpu and at least 4gb of ram , not all notebooks have dedicated graphic cards , when it says "integrated graphics" watch out , this type of gpu isn't strong enough to run 3d games , unless you want it to look like a picture slideshow.

also what are the spec of your laptop or desktop. And like blabla said, gaming on a laptop is not the best idea due to the fact that it is smaller, less powerful and over heats faster then a desktop

Intel Dual Core 2.2GHz - A CPU with two processing cores on one die
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 1536MB - nVidia's 500 Series GPU.

I suggest getting a desktop over a laptop.

What is your budget?

I'm running away from gaming console. The thing is, I'm not much of a gamer so they are point useless to me. But PC games I like since I'm always with my laptop. So I don't want to have something that will be sitting around days on end, nor do I want to spend that dough just for one game. Plus I'll need to buy a TV monitor. (Dont' have a tv)

Trust me, I am tempted to buy one - espeically since black friday is rolling around, but I have to give myself the TALK every once in a while.

I recently game across a cloud gaming website called onlive.com. Do you know anything about it? Like, Do you need a powerful PC to run it?

I belive you, like the others say, a desktop would be better than a laptop. My buget would have been 650 and under - but I;m not sure if it's worth it.

Have you heard about Welcome to OnLive. Is this WORTH it? I found out about it yesterday and now doing some research

i don't recommend Onlive , the input lag is a deal breaker for me , you play the games on their computers , and you get the video stream , so the image quality suffers , it costs alot of bandwidth and input lag is terrible .

Did you know that you can hook up consoles to a pc monitor ?

Also i don't suggest a GT540m , look for a laptop with the GT555m if you can find one in your price range. My laptop has a pretty decent ATI card , the Radeon 6750m so you should look for something in that range.

this page might be able to help you choose a Graphic card

this is the cheapest i could find with a gt555m , if this is too much money for you go with the suggestions in this thread and get one with the gt540m , it might not play the newest games with the graphics at maximum but you get what you pay for.

good luck!

Aargh! lol - looks like we're leaning to upgrade my laptop for this game. Thanks for pointing that out about OnLive because, I played the demo of the latest Lord of the Rings game (Forgot what it's called) and the graphics seems okay - just that using the keyboard was a pain.

Consoles to a PC monitor?

This sounds interesting. very interesting. I have a little port on the side of my laptop which I'm using. Hopefully I can use that as a bigger screen for browsing.

So for the monitor, all I basically need is to get one with those Audio/Video ports right?

Hmmm I might do get a monitor - and spend a couple of bucks on either a xBox or Playstation 3 afterall.

If you might consider PC gaming over consoles, then remember that getting a good GPU goes over a good CPU. :)
