Never getting used to things

It really does demoralise me, how in my mind, I can never get used to being in certain situations despite going through them over and over again.

Arriving at work every day, I still get anxious, even though I've done it for years. Going out shopping, I'm a bundle of nerves.

What's even more frustrating is that things you are meant to enjoy, for example, I went to a rugby match yesterday, I got so paniky and anxious, anyone would think I was about to go on the field!

Has anyone got any advice or similar experiences?

yes i felt exactly the same some time ago, like i was stuck. The answer i found is that going through is only a part of the thing. If you go to a battle, you dont go just to sit there and enjoy yourself, if you do so, someone will take care of you fast, in our case our automatic negative thoughts take care of us, we must fight them - first catch them, then stop them and then find distractions. As always, it is easier said than done but there is no other way.

I don't have any advice but I know what you are talking about.They always say practice make perfect but it never worked for me.No matter how many time I go through a certain event it never seems to get easier.

Maybe it just takes a lot more practice doing something you find really hard before you see any results from it and it will never be at a level of someone else.

i have the same reoccuring problems. Arriving at work also even though i do it all the time. My friend made fun of me last night because it's been 6 years and i still can't be alone in the same room with anyone in her family. I guess it's just about breaking a pattern. Shows you how persistant our minds are at keeping us worried.

yep...thats what social anxiety is all about.

to change the tought patterns as you say you have to change
how you view yourself.

You can either find a method to do it or with time often
(but sometimes it can be a very long time as many of you point out)
the brain and the mind cannot stay the same and will one day
change in a way where some things that bothered you are not
bothering you that much anymore.

Of course i personally find this second option to be uncertain and even
if some situations gets less stressful, many can still be the same.
