Natural Remedies?

Has anyone had any experience with so called "natural remedies" for anxiety and depression?

St John's Wort and Kava Kava are said to relieve symptoms (or act like a stress reliever at least) but I was just curious if anyone has tried either of these or some other natural way of relieving depression/anxiety a little. Of course MAJOR depression apparently it doesnt help with but anyway...

Just curious...

Personally, I find that a simple cup of full-leaf black tea does wonders for my overall mental health. I drink probably six cups a day when I'm in good supply, maybe more. It's cheap, readily available, and if nothing else makes for a tasty beverage.

One reason I think it works well for me is that it's a constant presence in my life. I can always look forward to it. I can always take five minutes out of my day to brew a cup or a pot, a little vacation and time to think. I can always derive a little bit of pleasure from such a small thing.

There are also compounds in tea like theanine that studies have shown have some relaxing effect, and it seems like every month or so some new beneficial property of things in tea is found and reported. I don't really pay too much attention to that because I don't need any further convincing that tea is awesome, but it certainly doesn't hurt to hear that I might live longer or get sick less because of it.

Incidentally, while most reporting focuses on green tea, the same compounds generally remain in black teas, if only in slightly smaller quantities. Good news for people that don't have a taste for green tea.

People will routinely tell you to avoid caffeine if you have anxiety, but I just don't find much connection between caffeine jitters and real anxiety. It may be tolerance, but I'm not interested in avoiding tea long enough to find out.

I would try passionflower. Try the tincture (liquid) kind in those little dropper bottles. Don't count the drops, just put 2 dropperfulls in a little water. It is like a natural xanax but more mild. It raises your GABA levels like xanax but its natural and nonaddictive. It won't cure anxiety but it takes the edge off enough for you work on it with whatever else your doing.

The downside is the price so you might want to only take it in more stressful situations. The pill form doesn't do much for me though.
