Anyone tried these techniques? I used to meditate when I was younger, but haven't in ages. I've heard it helps.

Also how does one be 'present' when thinking continually negative thoughts? Any tips?

that's just it

when you're "present" you're not thinking...

you're too busy interacting with what is outside your head instead of what is inside

you're too busy simply being rather than thinking about being

I meditate from time to time, not everyday, and it does help clear my mind a bit. I'm currently doing a free online mindfulness training course. Here is the link:

Mindfulness - Free Naturally Aware Mindfulness Course from Real-World Mindfulness Training - Maya Frost

When I'm angry or thinking negative thoughts, I find it very helpful to pay attention to my breath, the rhythm and flow of my breathing, and my body sensations. It is important NOT to dwell on the negative thoughts because dwelling on them makes them even stronger. I would tell myself, "I notice that my breathing is getting faster, I notice that I notice..." and then the anger and negative thoughts will gradually dissipate.

BTW, I got this piece of advice from Hardy (another user on the forum), who made a lot of posts about vipassana meditation.
