Looking ahead - any New Year's resolutions?

Do you make any resolutions, and if so, do you carry them out?

I try to make only one or two small ones that I think can be accomplished. For 2012, I'm going to try to drink less diet soda and more water, and spend 10 or 15 minutes a day cleaning up clutter. I'm addicted to soda so this one's going to be especially tough!

Back in late 2009, I made a resolution that I was going to be more extroverted once 2010 rolled around and I started a new semester. I started out and kept it up for months, then stopped after I got a boyfriend.

I'm tempted to make the same resolution again, but I'm a little afraid that, if I get another b/f, I'll stop again. :/ I suppose I could still vow to be more extroverted, even and especially if I get another b/f.

I do have goals for the next year but the probably sound a little bit silly... One thing I would like to do in the next year is begin to study physics properly and learn how to scuba dive.

I would also like to form a reggae band too... I have lots of ideas for that.

Next year HAS to be better than this one..

I think any goal that will help you improve is a good one, no matter if it seems silly. At least it gets you motivated, and that's the first step in making things happen!

Agreed, mate. 2011, particularly the back half, has been a disaster for me. My emotions have been allowed to take control and I haven't been very good. I hope your 2012 is a lot better. :)

I want to be healthier. I say this every single year but after the year I've had and the sheer amount of emotional eating I've done, I feel this one has to be carried out this time. More exercise, less junk. Now that I'm going to therapy it might be a little easier.

Thats an admirable goal. I know you have difficulties with the black cloud of depression ... they say a bit of exercise would probably do wonders with that... least of all to say your strength of character comes through taking the time to help everyone else here... time to look after yourself just as much I reckons :)

Thanks. :) I want to help everyone and sometimes I forget or neglect myself. I still want to help others but I have to sometimes focus on me, and that will be my goal in 2012. I'm feeling as unhealthy as I've ever been and I hate it. When I eat better I feel better mentally, too, so that will help.

I've had issues with depression since school, but the last several months has seen that intensify to levels I never thought possible. I think that's also contributed to my bad eating habits and I've got to change it.

You should look after yourself, too, ShyKiwi. You're a good guy so I hope you do.

I think I have some generic ones like eat better and exercise more since im in desperate need to do so. I also want to just ultimately better myself in whatever way necessary be it talking to people more or going out in public more often.

I want to have more confidence in myself and I want to stop comparing myself to other people so much. I want to stop caring about what other people think of me so much, talk to girls more often (possibly the one I fancy), stop being a pushover, stand up to alpha males that try to force their dominance on me. Theres plenty more. I want to mold myself into the person ive always wanted to be, a kind of person that I would be proud to know. Im tired of doing this and I want to change now. I can get all the help from people in the world but if I dont want to change then its all for nothing. I can hear my old boxing coach screaming in my head 'I CAN GIVE YOU SO MANY THINGS,HEART FIRE DESIRE AINT ONE OF THEM!

Rant over.

This is me, 120%. My resolution is going to work on having a healthy relationship with food and to not try and eat my emotions. I have been doing A LOT of emotional eating now that I am back home... it's terrible. I don't want to cut out "bad foods" but learn how to live with them and not need them.

If you want any type of support to carry out your resolution I would be more than happy to help. I'll need it too.

Is that diet soda with caffiene? That will be hard. I'm trying to cut out Diet Cola.

This is the year I plan on running a marathon.

Yes, it sure is! I drink it 24/7, so waaaaaay too much of it. Water just doesn't cut it but I need to start drinking more of it.

I'm addicted to sugar as well, but am going to tackle one vice at a time!

Exercise is a whole other issue. I can't even imagine running a mile let alone a marathon! Wish I was more athletic and liked doing that sort of thing. Hope you achieve your goal!

That's really good of you to keep it simple. It's a great resolution, something that you can easily stick to and yet something that will have impact on lots of parts of your life.

My new year's resolution is the same one as last year.

...and the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that.....

Seriously.

I have run out of different ways to approach it.

Every year I say "this year will be different".
It's like someone who keeps buying a lottery ticket and says, "this will be the one that wins"!

So here I go again. Another year, another angle, another way of approaching it, another attempt.::(::rolleyes:

I used to never drink water, now water is like 95% of my liquid intake,I only drink water, but reward myself with juice, soda on the weekends only a cup or two,now that I mostly drink water it became a habit.

I am going to start applying for jobs and cut down the amount of time I spend in the internet (but it will probably just be replaced by watching tv, like that is even any better lol)

Learn to play at least one musical instrument besides my voice.

Think about future plans; college needs to happen soon.

Losing weight- Being in a competition with my father makes this easier. With my competitiveness and volunteer job, I have lost 5 pounds in a little over two weeks.

Start writing music, poems, stories, etc. My friend used to ask me to write a story for a novel writing month; something that is apparently decently popular. I should make up for the times I haven't done it.

After the craziness of Christmas and when I am not too needed at the job I'm doing, I hope to apply for a paying job.
