Has anybody have any sucess with this drug ? I've been taking it for three weeks and don't feel like my anxiety is getting better as i still blush and sweat a lot in social situations. I hope i'm not wasting my time with this drug as it is my last option as other drugs havnt helped. I've heard it takes four to five weeks to feel the full effects of Lexapro. What happens when the full effects kick in, how different will i feel ?

Lexapro did me no good. The sweating, blushing thing wasn't an issue for me then, but it is now. I'm on klonopin now and it seems to be working somewhat. Everyone is different though so you may see positive results with Lexapro.

I found Lexapro somewhat helpful for SA/SP but there are better alternatives but I found it really helped my depression though. Like you I suffer from blushing and Lexapro didn't do a thing about it. Think about getting Inderal and a benzodiazepine (eg Valium, Xanax, Ativan etc) like Milo said. You say you have been on Lexapro 3 weeks so I would think it won't get much better for you but keep going for another few weeks just in case.

Good Luck!

I'm on lexapro now it took about 5 weeks for it to really kick in for me. It isn't a big help with sa/sp it does make me feel a bit more confident though. However, lexapro really helps my depression.

It might help others, but lexapro was awful for me. I had headaches and a general cloudy feeling. I stopped caring about anything, and I couldn't concentrate on things. It made my anxiety even worse, because I couldn't think well enough to hold some of it at bay. I changed to klonopin and that helps a little. With that, I'm able to work through the anxiety in other ways.

I hardly ever hear anything positive about Lexapro and the other SSRIs. I've never taken any of them, so I can't give any personal experience.

If what other people are saying about SSRIs are putting you off, don't let them. There are horror stories about every kind of drug but if everyone stayed away from drugs then we wouldn't have a good quality of life. I urge anyone who is being put off by such comments to give them (SSRIs) a go at least, then you can make your own mind up about them.

I agree with villacjs. My experience with lexapro was a bad one, but that doesn't mean it would be that way for someone else. I don't know about anybody else, but I'm willing to try anything my doctor recommends. If it doesn't work I'll try something new. I'd rather feel better, than be scared off by horror stories.

I think I'm just too afraid to try medication. Some of the side effects sound so unpleasant.

For some medication, you'll never notice any side effects. If you do, you can just stop taking it. Most doctors will start you with a smaller dose to avoid the side effects.

Trust me, 95-99% of the side effects listed on meds you will never get. The side effects of meds are nothing. Its the actual effects of the meds that will suck more than anything IF they happen to be a poor match for you, but thats not much of a problem when you just stop the med if its not helping. Never judge a med until you have been on it yourself as our individual brain chemistry is as unique as our faces.
