Jury service

Has anyone had to do this?

Someone I know ( a very confident person) had to do this a while back, and he was nervous!

Whats it like? Is it easy to do? as I cant talk to people one to one let alone in a big group lol

I remember when we had to do some jury duty at school (an act thing) and my hands went so wet that it kept making my paper soggy!

This is one of my biggest worries of all - jury service!

Id prefer to go outside and shout - I LOVE SEX down the road in front of loads of people than do this!!!! LOL (not but now you can see how much I would hate to do this thing)

Can someone put me at ease? Can a doctor do a note thing for this?

hiya beautiful :) ...i'm not 100% on this....but i think that if you get notice for jury duty in the mail...doesn't necessarily mean you will be picked to do it...i think there is like an interview process or something......then they decide from there..so..hopefully you won't have to do it

oh thats ok then! If theres an interview service, they will turn me out the court pretty quickly then when they see Im so scared!!!!

If I did have to do it, Id be crying in there & panicking so much, they'd let me out!

Do U get paid for it?

They would be passing me papers and these would fall out my hands because they'd be shaking so much!

I read somewhere if you feel ill in there, U can ask to be excused, but Id be too scared to ask someone that!

Also Im an OVER sensitive person, so hearing any thing in a court would leave a river flowing in the room when Id walked out LOL!
Just hearing bad stories on the news makes me cry :(

Hi beautiful I know something about jury duty..well at least jury duty in the states..and in california... I'm doing a jury trial next week...at least in california the criteria for being on a jury is 1) that is if you know someone involve din the case that might prevent you from be objective and 2) if you are unable to follow the law (example..if you disagree with the principle that people are innocent until proven guilty) and that would prevent you from following the law or 3) if you've had other biases..like bad experiences with law enforcement, or bad experiences with pot users (if the defendant was a drug user)...etc..beyond that its within the discrection of the judge to decide if you are fit for jury duty...and also the lawyers...if a lawyer doesn't think you'd be good for their side they'll kick you off... I'm kicking people off the jury next week....

HOpe that helps..that's just how its done in california....

Hey, it all really depends on which country you are living in. I did jury duty late last year on a Robbery and murder case and I absolutely loved it, it was a great experience and I hope that I can do it again sometime. As it has been pointed out, there is no guarantee that you will get on a jury anyway so I wouldnt worry too much, but if it is really bugging you maybe you could ask for a doctors excusal?. Its really hard to say since I dont know what country you are in and all countries would have different ways of going about choosing a jury. Really all you have to do on a jury is listen anyway so its not too scary 8) . Good luck anyway.

Well if you really wont to get out of it ask your doctor to write you a note if it's not to late yet.

Hey Beautiful.I have to agree with 4myself on this one.It really depends on what country you are in.But I think in general everything is reasonably similar. Here in New Zealand you are sent a letter in the mail notifying you that you have been chosen for jury service. You then get a good period of time to either accept or come up with a very good reason not to.I sat on a jury in December 2005.Upon arriving at the court room there was fourty to fifty people waiting. We are then herded into the court room and the jury process is explained. The names of people are then drawn ramdomly like a lottery.Upon having your name read out you then approach the bench and take your seat. But on the way you can be challenged by the lawyer and asked to return to your seat.Believe me if your name is called, once you are sitting down it is alot easier. And there will be many people there who are just as nervous as you are.Once the jury is chosen the jury then retires to choose a spokes person. This is usually a confident person or someone with chairman /leadership experience. For a start in the jury room it was totally silent.I was feeling really nervous, but so was everyone else.So I ended up speaking first to break the ice, and from then on everyone was far more relaxed. For me being on a jury was a great experience and like " 4myself " I would like to do it again. In the court room you find when you are concentrating on the evidence and whats being said any fears or nervousness will just dissappear.Beautiful I really struggle in public and in groups but when I pushed myself to do it , the SP was just not an issue. If I was you after what I know now I would just go for it and appreciate the experience.Good luck.

Thanks for your replies :)

No I havent been chosen thank God! This is just something Ive been worrying about for a long long time, especially since people I know have done it!!!

So if Ive read this right then, the 1st step to finding out whether you have to do it or not is when you receive a letter through the door saying you may have to do it. So theres no way you would get called to do it without a letter?
If this is true..then I can stop worrying! And only worry when I get aletter!!!
That will take a big strain off my shoulders :)

If you did have to do it and the doctor wouldnt write you a note & said you must try it for your confidence or something, whats the worst that can happen? Would they put you in jail or fine you? I would prefer 2 be fined than do it anyway!
