I am naturally terrified at working with people.

Despite having SA out of all jobs, I am a social worker. I go to people's homes, I interview and counsell people, I answer random phone calls in the office (with at least 3 other people around me that hear what I say on the phone), I contact other organisations and communicate with other health workers.

Every single day I make sure I arrive 30 minutes early, and I sit in the car parked away in the corner. I do this so I can take deep breathes before I start work. I look at my organiser to identify events of the day that may make me anxious and I mentally prepare for it. Sometimes even jotting down lines that might get me out of trouble.

I have forced myself to do this,...because I have no choice, what I want to do in life is to help other people, that's why I am a social worker. I remind myself my passion is worth confronting my SA.

My SA gets better slowly, but it will always be there...I just learn to cope better.

That's a very brave choice! Congratulations and good luck with your job ; social work must be very nerve racking especially for someone with SA but you chose to do it because you love helping people ; I wish I had the same courage you do!

Well I was an electronic technician for the last 17 years. My last job I was employed at for 16+ years until last April 16th they laid me off along with 23 others... They called it a Reduction In Force... So now I am going back to college to become a nurse... (Yeah, I know those two professions are so similar aren't they? :D )

Nothing that requires interacting with many douches in an office setting. The 9-5 bullshit managerial position is frightening and I'd rather be unemployed.... okay I'd probably like it if I got used to the people and had you know those "good days" where you don't feel like an imbecile. But really, I wouldn't mind being a researcher, especially in psychological and neuropsych field. That's what I'm in school for now.

due to SA keeping a job has been my biggest downfall in life. i get panicky when being around other people and just STRESS to the max. it never lasts. i usually get let go in an indirect way or quit. for me jobs usually last about 3 months and they are tied in to customer service (ass-kissing). i do not recommend customer service but in this economy good luck finding a job, period. you have to take what you can get.

I'm currently working as a comic creator. It's a difficult industry to maintain work in so I'm just working my ass off at the moment to try to ensure a future for myself in the business so I can continue to work from my drawing desk at home and avoid finding a real job dealing with lots of people lol. >.<

I'm on disability and don't work. I've had 15 jobs in my life so far and quit 14 of them due to anxiety or pain. Only got fired from one.

I work from home. I handcraft stone signs for people to place in front of their house displaying their name and whatever image they'd like. Sounds weird but people will pay a couple hundred bucks for a nice, carved and hand-painted stone to display their name and something about them in their front yard. I enjoy the variety of the work as I'm usually creating something different. Right now we're finishing up a 2 ft x 2 ft (roughly shaped) sign for our neighbors who are on the heftier side and they came up with the idea of putting Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head on theirs with their family's name below it. We're also just starting a sign for a customer who has had several Brittany Spaniels throughout his life. He wanted a much larger stone done (approximately 4 ft tall x 2 1/2 feet wide), with a large Brittany Spaniel bust painted and carved above his family name.

If you're wondering about the process that goes into making these products, here's what we do in my shop. First, we create the image in Adobe Illustrator and send it to our vinyl cutter to cut out a stencil of the image onto a thick vinyl. Then we take the image and adhere it to a fresh stone, so that we can take it into our sandblasting cabinet and carve the image deep into the rock's surface. Then we spray paint the portion that we carved black, as they are all the black lines of the image. After that, we remove the vinyl that covers the image and hand paint it, and then we spray it with a clear coat that protects it from the elements. I wish I had some pictures but they're all on my other computer. We're going to be getting a website soon so that's when you guys will be able to check out these masterpieces that have been being squeezed from stone in my garage :).

I think my story above is a great example of this. It took several months to get started, but now we're doing several projects each week, with each order an average of $150. In total we've put out a couple thousand dollars worth of products. Each of our products is like free advertising for us, as people place our stone signs in front of their homes, provoking their friends/family to ask where it came from. This gets people talking about my company. Hopefully work will pick us a little bit in the coming month due to Christmas.

We were going to get our products placed in a couple of local stores, but unfortunately they want a third of the profit just for having it in their store. That seems like a ripoff to me... Instead, we're just going to place an ad in the local newspaper this week, and along with all of the other signs we have placed in front of peoples' homes, that should provide plenty of advertising for our small family workforce to have a busy holiday season.

Peace
