It's official. I'm retarded.

Don't determine your self-worth on driving tests. Sure it sucks to fail more than once (I've been there), but why does that matter? If it's getting to you too much, perhaps a break from driving would do some good - collect your mind together n things.

I just can't believe how many people pass their driving exam and STILL SUCK at driving. They must have the ability to drive, but choose to make the stupid choices when doing it or something. And keep in mind, many people that have drivers licenses end up losing them anyways or having them suspended for doing stupid stuff. So, it's nice to pass the test but sometimes it doesn't mean much.

I doubt it. I'm 22, and still cannot legally drive.

I see friends of mine passing it first time with aplomb, and I'm jealous. I wish I was naturally confident. It's really not ****ing fair.

Yeah, they might be confident and stuff. But I'm sure you're good at something they're horrible at. I'm pretty creative because SA gives me a lot of alone time to think. I don't see that creativity in most people are who busy socializing. That's one example. Everyone has their Achilles' heel. Be kind to yourself. :)

I don't think if you fail to get your drivers license the 3rd time you're not destined to drive.

It only takes confidence and experience, but convincing yourself you won't ever get one lowers the confidence.
I only have my permit and I fear I'll never get my license -- even though I haven't done the actual test yet.
Rarely do people get their license on the first try; It would be crazy if someone got it the first time!

I know anxiety takes over the way you do things, but sometimes taking in a deep breath and letting it out helps.
I know that's the oldest trick in the book, though.

I wish I could help more.

Im not sure about were you live ? But in Australia (VIC) you can have your driving instructor in the car with you when the test is on. They obviously cant say anything to you, but the idea is they chat to the driving examiner every now and again, it sort of helps you relax, like your just going for another drive with your instructor + some other guy with a clipboard...

Doesnt sound like your doing to badly anyways :) Friend of mine did driving test a while ago, they hop into the car, examiner is like, ok drive out of the testing centre driveway and turn left or whatever.. As she's reversing the car she she went over the curb. literaly 10 seconds into the test the examiner is like "ok, please turn off the engine". She pretty much failed instantly... thats goto suck :( Going over the curb is an instant fail here (not sure if it still is, but it was back then... would hope it still is)

I've been told that if you don't pass by your 2nd or 3rd time, then you weren't destined to drive.
I've heard that too and its crap.

My lack of a driver's licence is the sole thing that is keeping me from being taken seriously in life.
I take it you're in the US? I have heard that if you haven't got a car/driving licence by your 20's then you're not accepted as a full adult. Even here in the UK, most people see males over 25-30 who don't drive as strange.

The majority of the world's population doesn't drive.
IDK about the world, but the vast majority of adult males in the Western world do drive.

I passed on the 3ird go, I then lost my licence and had to go for it again passed first go then lost it again
Why did you keep losing it?

I've been in a serious relationship for nine years and I don't have a car or a driver's license. You don't need either to be in a serious relationship. I also have a decent job.
Its different for a man than it is for a woman. I can guarentee if your hubby didn't have a car, you wouldn't have stayed with him. ;)

I haven't driven since I got my permit.
I've had my licence for 17 years and never owned a car.

I feel for you. I failed the written test for my permit 3 times. I quit trying but I will again some day. But like others said, I know people that failed both the written and driving tests way more than that. You'll get it eventually

Wow! I just had a repressed memory or something, after checking in on this topic again. I remember how I used to be so nervous when driving, even after I had gotten my license for months and months. Left hand turns at traffic signals here in the US(where you have limited time to get through) and parallel parking used to make me quite nervous. No problems with them since then. I think, like many other things I have lacked confidence in, it took me awhile to relax.

.

Funny you say this,I dont know about Sinar_Matahari,but I have seen some girls saying a boyfriend is only good as a motorist or that they would only date someone with a nice car, even if they were joking at the time, from what I know of them they arent, you know at least half is true....

I have a driving license and still people don't take me all that seriously in life!

It makes you a little more independent and helps you get certain jobs, but apart from that it's not all that useful really. In fact, i've not driven in about 1 and a half years now because i just can't afford it, public transport is much more convenient :)

Either way, don't give up. It took my dad 5 times to pass, which meant he had to take what they call the 'idiot test' in germany. By the time he finally passed he was such good friends with his driving instructor that he'd invite him round for dinner lol

What's the "idiot test"? Another reflection of society's contempt for those who are unable to pass a practical driving test? ::(:

In the worst worst worst case can't you move in a big city? I live in a fairly big city where people using public transportation and bikes are seen as way smarter than those who drive. And in fact almost everyone I know who are born in the city don't have a driver license because they don't see the point.

I failed my 4th go at my driving test this morning. It's f**ked. I can drive fine any other time, but when it comes crunch time, my nerves take over (no matter how prepared I thought I was) and I just **** out miserably.

I've been told that if you don't pass by your 2nd or 3rd time, then you weren't destined to drive. So how is it possible that I can drive well any other time apart from during a practical test?

My lack of a driver's licence is the sole thing that is keeping me from being taken seriously in life. It's not fair. I wish I could just drop dead.

OK, first of all, your lack of a drivers license is not the soul reason people don't take you seriously. If it is, **** them because they are not worth your time. When you get your license, (which you will:D) it really won't change as much as you think. There are so many motorist's out there that I can't take seriously. LOL. Those people that drive those ridiculous hummers, I take someone without a license a million times more seriously than I take them.
Secondly, you are not retarded at all. Actually this is a problem that so many "normal" people have. They can drive just fine, but as soon as the test is on they **** up. I got a friend who took the test over and over again, and she is everything that everyone wants to be. But when it comes to performing under pressure she just buckles. So don't feel so bad, like a lot of people are saying, this happens to everyone.
Try this, go into the test knowing that you are going to fail it again. But you know you can take it again, so you are just practicing testing. If you can remember that there is really no pressure, than you might relax enough to pass. Good luck!!

My cousin failed the driving test X times and is not retarded I think :). Now he drives well, but too fast and recklessly and I am scared everytime I go with him. I only pray that we make it to the end without accident.

You're definitely not retarded for not having passed your drivers test.

I myself failed twice, before passing. I generally drive OK, probably a little fast at times. Which is funny in hindsight, as I used to be ****e scared of driving when on my L's, and I think I used to drive too slowly.

I have a good friend who is my age, and he only has the Learners Permit. Something happened in his past years ago, I'm not exactly sure of the full story. But I think he was a passenger in an accident that claimed the life of his uncle. I haven't asked him the full story, as it's not really any of my business, and I don't like to pry.

Nobody ever thinks any lesser of my friend, just because he doesn't have his license. He has a decent job, ,he's actually quite a smart person, and he's getting married this weekend, to a wonderful girl.
