Is SA/SP a character flaw, or..?

I am wondering what you folks think about having Social Anxiety/Phobia.

Is it a character flaw, a weakness? Is it make us cowards that we fear social interaction and dislike ourselves because of this?

Or is this a product of our upbringing and we are just victims that ought to be pitied for low hands that have been dealt to us?

I am not sure what I think: sometimes I think one thing or the other, but I never have really looked at it as a state of cowardiceness.

I feel like for me it's just the way my brain is programmed. That doesn't make very much sense, I guess. What I'm trying to say is that it's just how I am. I wouldn't say that it's necessarily a flaw.

My upbringing has been fine, so I can't attribute it to my home environment.

Well let's see... anyone happy with SP? Anyone who would rather have it then not? No? Then obviously it's a character flaw. I don't think it matters where it comes from, we all agree it is a problem.

Well said, I feel pretty much the same way about my SP.

I'm definitely not happy with SP  but I don't exactly want to be a social butterfly either, if you know what I mean.

SA is not a character flaw per se, the problem is your character is being hidden from the world due to fears that it will be exposed and exploited.

You don't turn into a social butterfly without SP. You'd just become a confident quiet person.

SA/SP to me is basically fear that hinders us from showing the rest of our personality. It's something that I've probably developed over time but I'd say it's pretty pointless to blame ourselves.

Exactly. If I didn't have SA I'd still be on the introverted side. I just want the ability to talk to people when I want to, you know? For the most part I would still avoid being social, and stuff..But yeah, it would be nice just to have "control".
