good morning

Is it normal to walk stiff and somewhat abnormally when having SA?

I usually get an impression I go stiff and - especially when I am walking more slowly among other people - I do not "wave" my arms, as the other people wave.

Do you as well have such an impression? It is embarassing.

When I walk quickly, I wave my arms normally.

good bye

Yeah I feel like I dont have much control over my body and feel like I am walkin funny.
Don't know if any1 else notices but it makes me feel a bit silly.

I try to swing my arms and walk normaly but it makes me feel uncomfortable and makes me think any1 looking at me will think that I think I'm a hard man or big headed or somethin which I dont really want.

Guess it is the SA and this constant self analysis of our selfs that makes us feel awkward.

Try and break the habit of analysing all these things about yourself is what I say.

If you think your walking funny then just go with the flow and don't beat yourself up about it because your gonna be walking the same way anyway so whats the point in making an issue of it?

Unless you like more stress and uneasiness that is.

There is no "right" or "wrong" way to walk! The person who walks "right" is someone who gets to where they are going and enjoys themselves while doing it. Thus you can walk "right" even if you walk like a someone with a spastic condition.

If I had your anxiety, I would do an exercise where I pretended to walk in a very strange way and observe the result. Do people watch me? Laugh at me? Do I damage my ability to walk in the future?

The point is to become less self-conscious about your conduct. Everybody walks and waves differently -- you may be starting a new style!

Do you walk like THIS FUNNY VIDEO ?

This summer I went to the grocery store and when I went throught the checkout line, my arms became so tense I was trembling and I couldn't move them. I had to leave.

Ok, i'm not sure if I'm that close to curing myself, but in public i've taught myself how to react and act, i feel reasonable confident these days in the public. It's easy, I just do whatever is natural, being tense isn't really a problem with me.

You just have to realise that you're mostly invisible regardless of SA, people don't notice you nearly as much as you notice them, and most of all they seriously couldn't care less abotu what you look like. But you start to get noticed once you feel nervous and paranoid, and it's all a big chain reaction. I'm pleased with how i've managed to cope.

Even walking around school, something harder than in the public or random people, I've learnt to keep good posture and carry on walking, It improves self confidence sooo much, and really sets you up for the next enounter with whoever talks to you first. I even make my own conversations when i've had a good day, surprisingly.

Reverse the chain reaction, it's my current way of curing myself! Instead of going downhill getting more and more paranoid and depressed, it's not too hard to get a few tiny boosts of confidence, and the feeling is amazing.
