I get anxiety attacks from thinking about therapy for anxiety

anyone else do this?

I've been trying to get myself to go for two weeks now.

Someone who's had it talk me into actually going and tell me what a good idea it is and how it will help.

Is it because you know you will have to face your fears ??

Any therapist SHOULD let you go at your own pace .

If you want to move forward with your life and your problems at some point you have to try as hard as you can to shake yourself down and grab at what is offered , otherwise you will just fester getting nowhere ...except worse !!

The therapists will give you help to find the root of it , deal with it as its happening , talk to you about social situations and help you take one step at a time.

Go or get worse ...its really that simple.

It's not about facing fears as much as I just hate dealing with people. Especially people I don't know.

My main "fear" as far as they are concerned is that things will be a bigger PITA than anything. I have already called 3X about their sliding scale financing and received 3 different answers.

The first time I called the 800 appointment number it was $92 a session.

A friend didn't think it sounded right and called locally. They said I was misquoted so I called locally and was quoted $25.

So I call the appointment line and get to $87.

When I said I called local and was told $25 they said maybe the payscale changed but they didn't update the computer. Then wtf is the point of a 800 # appointment line if it gives wrong info? Plus the appointment was a MONTH from now, which I find ridiculous.

So I was going to do a walk in. I guess the fear is walking in and it being one of the higher prices and leaving disappointed because I can't get the help I want/need.

I see what your saying and it sure is expensive , I know here if your on the list to get it free you are waiting months and months , I don't know about if your paying yourself though.

well your armed with the knowledge of the poosible outcome if it is that expensive. But ..you still have to do this incase it isnt , and the sooner the better. Can you at all go in just to chat to the reception staff to get the right story and take it from there , instead of making an appoitment in the strength of "can only stay if its not too expensive"

Its a crying shame when one cannot afford to get help !!!!!

Update:

I made it as far as driving through the parking lot. But the parking lot was full, and that means people, and I hate people, so I left.

But I made it that far. Last week I freaked out while on my back porch going to the car.

I think I made a big step. :D

I was put on the list about 3 or 4 years ago and they eventually got back to me after 4 months or so. I turned up 15 minutes late then the woman gave me a right rollicking about how I should turn up on time. If I didn't want to be there maybe I should not bother turning up next week as there are other people who could be using that time etc etc

Holy cow!

That is what I have noticed thus far....the "highly trained professionals" seem to me to be neither highly trained nor professional.

I may lmao if me, with an interest in psychology and human behavior, go in there and blow them away!!! I'll probably read the body language whether I want to or not anyway. Plus I'm a muscle bound guy and having me spew words like psychosomatic and derationalization and discussing ADHD as it relates to the prefrontal cortex tend to surprise people.

I started therapy about a month ago for the first time and I was really uncomfortable with it too - initially I was excited to go, but as the first session drew nearer I started to panic and thought about not showing up. In any case, I decided to bite the bullet and go, but that first meeting was still pretty awkward. Nothing unbearable though, so I think you'll be okay. It does help to have someone unbiased to talk to, and it gets better once you realize that they really are there to help you and that it doesn't matter how much of a mess you think you are. Just have some mental notes ready regarding potential things to talk about; some issues that bother you, some things you're afraid of. That makes it all flow a bit more easily.

Do they give a full assessment or do they just sit down and ask "what's on your mind?"

I'd really like a full assessment. My diagnoses are from my GP based mainly off hunches based off what I tell her, it be cool to have an official test done.

I just emailed one of the people there I have been in contact with. I asked how they assess, how long it takes, ect.

If I have a bit of an idea what to expect then I find it easier to go through with.

I hope. ::eek::

I FINALLY manned up and went.

And you would never guess what happened.

I walk in and tell the receptionist I wanted help and she said Mary would be right with me.

A few moments later Mary comes through the door and beckons me to follow her. I tell her she looks familiar and she said I did too.

We sit down and the other therapist comes in and she informs him we may know each other, but we aren't sure from where.

Finally I ask her if she knew Mandy and Stacey...she went white and excused herself.

About 5 years ago I met her at a club and we used to hang a bit...I kept trying to get her to go out but she never would.

I bet she's glad she kept saying "no" to me now!! lol

But talk about feeling awkward.....

anyway, I have an "official" appointment with a therapist June 3rd.

I was a bit surprised that apparently they will access through interview. I expected a MMPI or something. I made mention I suspect a personality disorder, should I come straight out and say I suspect Aspergers, Schizoid personality disorder or something along the lines of lesser autism's?
