Hyperhidrosis and Depression

Hello to all!

Does anyone else suffer from depression because of this condition? I have an old girlfriend that said to me last week that she thinks I suffer from cyclical signs of depression. I didn't think anything of it until she said something.

I know my hands sweat most of the time and that they even peel in the fall and winter. That's when she says that I get down. It seems that every fall, right before my hands peel I get into a surpressed attitude. I've never really known that others (old girlfriends) could tell the difference. Since they have lived with me they might know me better than me. They've even said I get somewhat clingy at that time.

Didn't know if HH could be the trigger for my attitude or if it could be a different underlying situation that I'm dealing with.

I've never been medicated for Depression and I even scared myself by reading definitions of Manic Depression and the signs of it on line.

I'm interested in knowing what anyone might have to say and if they've dealt with it too. I would like to hear from people and what has helped them.

Thanks!

Maybe you got Seasonal Affective Disorder if your only depressed in the dark months of the year...but its unlikey since you live in Florida. Just go to your doctor and ask him/her about it.

I think HH defo sent me into depression.
My life was going really well and was really enjoying myself with partying etc uptill when I was 20 odd and got this awful condition and my life went spiralling downwards.
Since geting HH Ive suffered badly from depression, lost lots of friends, got really bad anxiety and become alot more unsociable etc.
Its on my mind most of the time and I somehow manage to stick down a job in a office but Im a miserable bastard now and just get on with it. (25 now)
Dr gave me meds once but didnt get on with em n cant see em helping so stopped em.

You're the first case off hh I've seen developed at 20 years old! WOW! how did that happen!? :s Most cases of hh happen during the onset of puberty. But please, don't let it drag you that much down. It can be managed. You have it where? (I have it everywhere so I know how to manage it wherever you have it)

If you have it on hands and feet, I HIGHLY suggest an iontophoresis machine. IT WORKS. Don't do it daily and as much sessions as can as some sources say, since that does nothing. You have to follow a certain schedule, for example with my idrostar i use day 1, day 2, day 4, day 7, day 10 (by this day they're practically dry) and then maintenance treatments every 5 days. For my facial and trunkal sweating I don't use this only on as needed basis, which is Ditropan, because ditropan has many annoying side effects. However, an hour into taking it, it will work like a charm and last for about 6-7 hours, even alleviate the sweating for the whole day. These are my current methods of treatment, and I will be trying ets soon, but the most I could say is just live, laugh, and love man. Life is good.

While theres no better excuse to be socially withdrawn, you shouldn't let it get you down. I agree with rex, life is beautiful, and even though we all live with this condition, we have to be strong, and realize that theres more to life than just sitting around worrying about sweat. It's hard for me to shake off the thoughts of "if only I didn't have HH", but the more you think about it, the more you drive yourself crazy. It's just something we have to accept, and all we can do is push forward.

HH definitely caused me to be depressed at times during my teens. I didn't discover glycopyrrolate until I was around 21 and didn't start using Iontophoresis until I was around 25 (I'm 27 now), so my highschool years were really hard. I was part of the popular crowd and pretty social, but when it came to intimate social situations from shaking hands to getting close to a girl, it was a disaster. Things have improved immensely since I've started iontophoresis. Can't wait until I can afford to upgrade to a Fischer or Idromed, etc. from my Drionic.

you need to ditch that drionic machine asap and get something better, it will be a lot more effective. When my hh started when I was 27 (i think it was around then) it definitely changed me for the worse and when it spread to my hands I've been so low (it must of been some kind of depression) thankfully though ionto works for me

ive been depressed my whole life thanks to my horrible hyperhidrosis!!! it was my hands feet and head and underarms but then i did ets surgery 8 years ago, im 37 now. it worked for the hands and face but im just as miserable now due to the increased chest, back and leg sweating after surgery!! ive tried antideppressants and they worked but i didnt like the sexual side effects,, also i tried wellbutrin which doesnt have the sexual se but guess what wellbutrin does have??? it increases sweating!!! haha cruel joke from god!! so ive tried avert (glycopyrrolate) it seemed to only work for a short time , im in a very hot and humid place now , but im trying up to 12 mgs of avert a day now!!! 4 mg more than the recommended limit!!! and its not even helping. so i really wanna try ditropan again,, i did in the past but couldnt take the dizziness, tiredness, confusion etc... so i really wanna hear from anyone else who has used ditropan with success...please let me know im very deppressed and i wanna get on with life but its hard when im completely soaking wet all day long... i cant even wear normal clothes such as dress cloths, i can only wear sport cloths, ughhhh. wannabedry, have you tried drinking sage tea? I read somewhere on the net that this lady cured her hh by taking sage tea twice every day for around 5 years. CURED! As in it never came back. She started seeing results in around 3 weeks with decreased sweating. I say what you got to lose try this out. I'm on my 2nd day of sage tea, and I'll see how that works out. Ditropan just tires the crap out of me and leaves me with TERRIBLE and HORRIBLE side effects. It's the worst med I've ever taken the side effects are just unbearable. I'd rather be dripping wet then be in the state of confusion and aches the ditropan leaves you with. I'm gonna try avert soon, I hear it's got much less side effects than ditro. My cousin will order some from me from the canada online pharmacy.

I think HH has to be linked to depression in most cases. The sweat is no doubt going to affect your social life, and without a great social life depression can hit you were it hurts.

Best thing you can do is find a treatment (Ionto combined with antiperspirants for the hands is the best bet!) to manage the amount you sweat and just get out there and enjoy it, you only get one!
