How to survive at an extroverted school?

Don't try to be someone else but do what you have to do to pass your classes,
And hang on tight until it's over?

Just do what you want, as and when you want to. So long as you do not intend to be imbecilic, you will not look back with regret. Have conviction! Repeat these things in your mind constantly, visualize yourself being socially assertive. Do this obsessively. And everytime you make a mistake - real or perceived - recount all the silly faux pas these supposed socialites commit DAILY!!! Dust yourself off, rinse and repeat. Don't live your live; own it!

You can't. I mean you can, but since it's a top 10 uni, you need to put yourself out there. Once you graduate, you'll be needing as much reference and connections as possible in order to land a good job.

Thanks for the advice, guys. There's going to be a frosh event, and I'm no way in hell attending it, because... social anxiety. Orientation at that school was terrible enough. I didn't talk to anybody one on one the entire time, and I dreaded every time we had to speak up to our small groups. This school year's going to be great and full of friends! I can just feel it. :p

How's school so far?

I'm also a freshman this year at a top 10 school... What if we go to the same school? o:

Only way is to join em. Since it's a big ten uni, I'm assuming that there's a lot going on there. Try researching some clubs or organizations there and attend the meetings.

The first week wasn't too great because I wanted to make friends. I was embarrassed not sitting next to anybody in the cafeteria. :p As I got further into my studies, I no longer cared about cliques or people. It's a lot better now. Also, I go to UIUC lol. You? If we do go to the same uni we could be friends... unless you're an axe murderer or whatever.
