I had a conversation with some people today about music. One of them said that "our generation dosen't really listen to music." I don't know if I agree with this, but maybe it is true. I am a musician, and music is absolutely essencial to my existance. Really, music is one of the things that I need to survive in a quite literal sense.

How often do you listen to music? How much do you get from it? Do you think that you're surrounded by those who are passionate about it , or people who are more or less impartial to it?

I'm not even sure what this means. Almost everyone I know listens to some form of music, even in passing.

For me, music is essential. I love it and I listen to it daily.

I listen to music almost everyday. I have a family member who used to play the violin. Music puts a smile on my face.

Hell yes I think music is important!
I play guitar most days and it's like an extension of my body :).
When I don't play for a while, I feel like something is missing, or not right. It's my religion in a way.

I voted for number 2. I love listening to music and I also think the sound of dead silence is music to my ears as well.

When I listen to music my brain creates stories making it hard to focus on my work and learning. I've never been the type that could work and listen to music.

Sometimes I get this way, too. I need no music, and no noise at all - just the sound of the ringing in my ears and my own thoughts. Music is fantastic, but the opposite is just as good at times.

Music is my drug.
We all need our fix regularly.

Considering that every bit of entertainment has music in it of some form or genre, it would be nearly impossible to not listen to music at all (no matter what generation). I've never met a person that said ''This movie/game is great, but the presence of music just ruins it for me..''. Most, if not everyone, appreciate music to a certain extent.

To me it's quite important too. I don't listen to it every day, but when I do listen it's usually for several hours.

I think I know what is meant... I watched an interview with my favourite musician once and he said the same thing - many people don't listen to music. They might go out to a club or a bar and hear it, but it's not a big part of their life and they don't specifically listen. Note, there's a difference between "hearing" and "listening"... Many people who have music on constantly, say on the radio, don't pay attention to it, it's just background noise, while other people might hear less music throughout the day but they listen to more, since they put it on specifically to pay attention to it.

As for me, music is very important. It heals me, it energises me, it speaks to my very soul.

I found the interview - skip to 4:10

Music is quite important to me as well. I don't play any instruments or sing or anything like that, but I listen to it all the time. I am always looking for new music to listen to, and when I am not listening to music, it is playing in my head. It is therapeutic, helps me think and process my thoughts...and dream :) Some people I know like it but don't crave it in quite the same way. Music is essential for me.

<3 Let's just say it keeps me alive... ._. Okay, maybe being slightly dramatic here, but I know it's going to be a part of my life until I die, whether I end up being a producer, musician, composer or a bit of all three. Here's a song that sums up how I feel about not only hip-hop, but all the genres I listen to...

I voted option 2. I enjoy music and listen to it regularly but I certainly don't need it. It's just a nice little bonus when I'm driving or when I'm out at a bar or something. I could never be one of those people that walks around with their earbuds in 24/7.

(1, I find them uncomfortable :p and 2, I always like to be able to hear my surroundings, just in case)
