HOW DO YOU SAY GOOD BYE?

I'm leaving another job, yet again and tomorrow is my last day. Am seriously thinking of just not coming on my last day so I don't have to face coworkers, but have no idea how bad this would look. Don't know what to say or how to behave when I face the moment of saying goodbye. I'm glad to leave, but of course I wouldn't want to show that; however, I feel pretty foolish acting like it was a sad occasion.

any suggestions? Is it really unprofessional not to come to your last day of work?

No no no no. ....

you have to turn up, make it fun ..rub in the other co-workers faces and say stuff like "i'm free, first thing i'll do is take a loooong holiday" then i'll go on the dole and bask in my own juices for a while ..

"nur nur you have to stay here and i'm free" nur nur ..

something like that

what can they do, fire you?

also you may receive a going away gift and its just better to be there until the end, especially if you want a good reference for a next job ...

its like any other day instead your wanting the clock to hurry up and reach 5pm so you can get out ...

trust me ive always stayed until the end and the worst that happened is the managers would complain about finding a replacement because i was so well trained and knew my duties ...so its awkward but easily shrugged off ...

try and think of some funny lines like "pay me double and i'll stay" ..just be light hearted about it all .

my last 30 minutes in the job i last quit was torture, because it was a small business and you just feel so guilty leaving even though i knew i shouldnt feel that way ...

another job it was easy leaving, i shook peoples hands and it was very casual and fun ...

so dont think its always you that makes it awkward, sometimes other people make it more emotional or harder by the comments they direct at you ....

Richey, good advice, which I wished I had the wherewithal to use. Do you have SAD, cuz you seem socially competent. I forced myself to go and the only good thing that came out of it was my boss sought me out to say goodbye and that she'd write a letter of reference. I had been too afraid to initiate asking her (this is another thing I hate about job hunting - getting references).

But I felt uncomfortable the whole time and I was radiating awkwardness. Now it's going to start all over again. Whoopee!

I thought the same thing  not questioning their SAD or not, just that the things he mentioned were very high level social skills(haha) I certainly wouldn't be able to say any of that without it sounding awkward and out of character
