How are you feeling?

I'm better now, but at work I allowed negative thinking and hypothetical negative situations run away with me again. It makes me upset, even when I know that what I've thought up is completely untrue.

Today I went through a complete hypothetical on two scenarios: getting stood up for a date, and having my brother totally hate me. Neither of those things have happened, but I let my mind wander and it affects my mood. Why? It doesn't make sense that I do this.

I'll fight this. It won't win.

I do this a lot, although it's usually some gruesome violent scenario that plays out where somebody gets hurt and I can't help them. It's worse when I drink too much caffeine. I think it's just a manifestation of general anxiety, and it's best to catch yourself as soon as you can and change your thought pattern.

I've got to find something to get excited about in my life - I'm rapidly slipping into a hole I don't think I can get out of if it's allowed to escalate.

^ I do this quite often too, it's a great way to kill a good mood or make a bad mood even worse. Like Marie said, it's best to catch them and change your thought pattern as soon as you can. Have you still been feeling a little down? I hope some positivity comes your way soon.

Seems like a lot of you were tired and crabby yesterday/last night. I hope a good night's sleep cleared that up.

I'm feeling really good today. Had a great night out last night and can't wait to leave tonight for the holidays. I'm a tad anxious about it, I'll admit, but I'm mostly pretty excited.

Oh I am sorry. I feel the same way. I just started to learn how to play the bass which I am super excited about. It is helping me stay afloat mentally right now.

What might you be able to do to help you from this happening? Learning a new instrument can be really fun and challenging plus keeps your mind off depressing crap.

I can't wait to get an amp!

Aye, music can help ye if yer feelin' really depressed. Especially if ye play an instrument. Believe you me there's nothin' better than battering the f**k outta an electric guitar - ah know, ah've got angry management issues.

Good on ya, take up the bass, April - ah could never master playin' the properly, found it too difficult.

Absolutely! I have always loved bass heavy music, and my favorite bass player is Geddy Lee, and I love Les Claypool too.

Yep, I could use some help with anger issues too!

My mind is powerful, it convinced me I was going to die, a few years ago. What if I could convince it into believing the positive, how powerful would that be? Even without much belief I have made dreams come true. I ran a marathon, I never dreamed, but I did it. I can do more. When my mind is convinced of something good or bad, it seems inevitable I take steps towards that outcome. The most powerful weapon I have in my favour is the voice of my guide.

My mind said, you are dieing, and I followed that to the outcome to having panic attacks that for 5 years. My guide said, don't give up, keep fighting, it's going to be OK. And it was right. My guide said I want this knee pain to stop, and I found answers and worked so hard at the rehab and I beat it. My guide suggested, even if you can't beat the knee pain at least keep fighting it to show how much you hate it. I didn't believe I could beat knee pain but I began to take small steps toward that happening and it did. My guide is a voice that drives me to fight even though there is no guarantee of success.

In my mind I have a voice I call my guide, it is a positive voice, it is the voice that says never give up, it is the voice of encouragement, it is the voice of acknowledgement. It has always been there, but I've begun to listen to it some more, tune to them out of the garbage in my mind. My guide is always fighting for me, even in my darkest moments.

My guide said you will start running again and that happened too, despite all the doubts I had about breaking down in knee pain. Then I begun to have a dream to run a marathon. You will run a marathon before fifty. I started taking small steps towards that goal. In September 2012, I made that dream come true, at age 50 years and 3 days. A mind is powerful if you can put thoughts into dreams into actions.

My guide has said, one day you will wake up and it will be better, my guide said, one beautiful morning three years ago, you can beat anxiety. Today I am going to start taking small steps towards that, with the helpful voice of my guide at my side. This post is my guide's words, it's trying to help. You can do it, mate. Believe.

I also believe that everyone has this voice, we just don't listen to it enough.

Thanks to both of you for replying. Those two scenarios are tame compared to some others I've had: death in the family, cancer, and so on. I agree it's best to catch myself doing it early, but sometimes I'm not even realising it's happening!

Phoenixx, the only times I feel really down is when loneliness wants to creep in, but otherwise I'm okay. I could be happier, though - a couple of months ago I was on top of the world. I would love to get back to that. :)

I'm sorry to hear this, mate. I don't really know what to say to help you here. I hope you find something to interest you.

Of course you can do more, mate. I hope you achieve all the things you want.

Oh, great choice for favourite bass players, April. Geddy & Les are both excellent bass guitarists. I've actually seen Rush twice live in concert - the most recent being earlier this year. Brilliant live, by the way, and they play for about 2 hour without a support band.

Yep, I could use some help with anger issues too!

Same here. but am partly too lazy to deal wi' ma anger issues. But then a lotta ma supressed rage get channeled intae playin' music.

Oh, aye, forgot aboot the drums! An equally nice, loud instrument to belt the f**k outta & piss off yer neighbours, at the same time. Like an electric or bass guitar runnin' through a 50 watt amp!

^ I hope you get back to that point too. I'm currently on top of the world this month, I haven't felt this good in weeks, so many great things happening for me lately. I love it and I really hope it doesn't end anytime too soon. :)
