Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Beware, spoliers!)

It took me a week to finish the book. I'm sad that the series it at an end, but I was happy with the overall outcome.

I was glad that Snape turned out to be good. I think Alan Rickman plays him very well in the films. The body count was higher than the previous books- Hedwig, Mad Eye Moody, Dobby, Fred, Lupin, Tonks, Snape, Colin Creevy, but at least Voldemort was destroyed.

I think I would of perhaps liked Hogwarts to have featured a bit more, but I loved the way Rowling put in so many twists and near escapes for Harry- Gringotts, Malfoy Mansion.

Can't wait for the film now (albeit at least 2 & 1/2 years away!). The near escapes and battle scenes should be superb.

Were you happy with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?

I'm as flippin excited for the movies as a calendar in front of a windy window :D

The concept of horcruxes did not disappoint for a dark revelation in HBP and neither did its perilous entailments (as sad as they were, the danger was fun). It's the same way I look at the idea of dementors as sick yet perfect for bringing an intriguing morbid, risky dimension to the series.

Prior to DH there was all this buzz that Harry was going to die... besides satisfying the reader masses' emotionally attached need for a happy ending after being allured into a whole series of engrossed suspense; either way he still would've remained "the boy who lived," especially now that the series is over (fanfiction! post-potter depression!)

I still wish I was Luna Lovegood...

I was happy with the Deathly Hallows, but of course I was disappointed by the lacklustre and awfully happy ending. :D To me it is so cliched and I don't mind a bit of morbidity in a fictional book - it's not real after all. I can understand the desire for happy endings, though.

The whole series was so interesting and engaging. It's a very easy read and very hard to put down. Of all those increasingly extraordinarily thick books J. K. Rowling kept producing, it still seems like we were shortchanged. She is an awesome author.

I suppose there are movies to look forward to, but they are definitely a poor replacement for the books.

Speaking of which, the Half Blood Prince movie is nearly here! Finally, after that stupid delay Warner Bros decided to inflict upon fans last year.

However, trying to cram a 600 page novel into a two and a half hour movie will never do it justice.

From what I have heard, it isn't getting particularly good reviews. I will eventually watch it anyway, just because it is a Harry Potter movie and I was such a fan of the books.

What is your take on the quality of the movie?

It seems to be getting pretty good reviews in the UK (generally four stars out of five). However there has been one or two bad reviews, largely moaning about the lack of action for the first two hours, and then what feels like a final rushed half a hour.

I've yet to see the movie - I want to wait until the inital crowds have died down before going.

Well I've seen the movie now.

I thought that it very polished and had great some great special effects. However I was disappointed to see some key scenes missing, and at times the movie didn't seem 'meaty' enough to me.

Overall it was a good effort, but not the best movie in the series I feel.
