I want get my haircut, but it's such a tedious process. Having to tell the person how you want it cut, and then actually having to sit there for nearly half an hour or more while you watch yourself in the mirror. The only good part about it is when I look at myself in the mirror I can control my anxiety for some reason...and not to mention the awkward little remarks the person makes that you have to respond to or else you seem like a freak. It sucks I have to stress out over something as simple as getting a haircut. I know there are others worse off, but I just want to be able to function!

i cant do it. first, seems like the haircutter always wants to interrogate you about your life. they've got their hands all over you head and then your forced to look at yourself dead on in the mirror for part of it, which i hate. i know its weird to get worked up over something most people do without a second thought

Funny, I got a haircut yesterday morning and was thinking about the same stuff. I'd personally rather just sit there and relax, and not follow along with the stupid small talk some of the workers try to drag on. But remember that not just people with SA are like that. You know those really rich families? They usually prefer not to talk at all when they eat for example.

In other words, more people that you might think realize that it's okay to shut the **** up sometimes.

Well...I am 12 days away from a haircut-free year...
I don't awkward at a hairdresser unless it's someone my age, who asks a lot of questions to which my mind is working overtime to answer.

I know how you feel! Yeah the sitting/waiting/having to look at yourself/feeble attempts at small talk- it's supposed to be relaxing but it's not. I got my haircut twice this year, which is more than usual (and my mom [im 23] made my last appointment).

However, the haircut i got earlier in the year I went and did by myself. (before that it had been a year since I got it cut) I went to the mall during the week when it wasn't busy and got it done at mastercuts. I almost didn't walk in, but I was looking for jobs at the time, and i knew I needed it. But it does feel good to get rid of all the split ends!
For me, it helps to know what I want before I go in, and sometimes using a picture for reference. I just try to smile, say thank you, and leave a tip. But if you're a guy it should be a lot quicker!

I've always hated haircuts. They ask you what you want and I have no idea what to tell them. Then sometimes they'll try to make conversation with you and ask you what you do for a living and where you live and all that. I'd rather they just cut my hair and leave me alone. I got a haircut a little over a year ago that pissed me off so much I decided not to get them anymore. My hair is pretty long now and I like it.

I NEVER have to saywhat I want, unless i want something different. My barber has been the only one to cut my har for six year now. I havent let one other person cut my hair since the first time he did, so i usually just sit in the chair, relax, and talk crap. I always worry, though, if he will accidentally make a mistake like give me a bald spot or something when I have to go somewhere really important. lol

Women's salons are horrible...so much talking, I look like a wierdo not talking much. But I've been going to the same lady for about 10 yrs now so she knows I am "just quiet".

Plus I only get my hair cut every 6 months :D love long hair!

No matter how I go about doing it I can never get the haircut I wanted. I usually just let me hair grow longer than it should.

There are few experiences quite as hellish as getting a haircut. It's one thing to feel cripplingly anxious around other people but to see it all happening right there in front of you in the mirror is just devastating. It's like being given a front row seat to the most depressing show on Earth.

My mum use to think that I would become a hairdresser because I have been cutting my own hair since I was 4, I probably felt as awkward about going to the hairdressers then as I do now. I don’t do a good job of it though because when I do go in, they always complain and say who was your last hairdresser?

LOVE MY STYLIST.. we hardly ever talk and she knows what i like so i never have to direct her. Ive been going to her for 8 years now. i dunno what im gonna do if she decides to stop doing hair!!

only problem i have is when shes washing my hair.. i dont like to bend my head back..leaving my neck exposed. My anxiety is at level ten until i sit up.. i dont know what that is..

Yeah, I don't like sitting in that chair while trying to make small talk. I usually give myself a buzz cut or let it grow out. Don't really have to worry about it.
