Guilt trip

What do you do when someone collecting for charity gets a hold of you and not only gives you a good spiel about the charity but a nice big serving of guilt to go with it ? If you had anything you would right, despite telling them this they just wont give up the gulit trip - so what would you do to get out of it ?

I think of donating to charities as more of a way to avoid the negative -- if you don't do it, you feel really guilty, and if you do, what do you get? Not a damn thing. :(

I get really pissed off with those Chuggers who step in front of you, and try to hold you hostage and make you feel guilty. Although, I never really do! Sorry to be no help Red xx

Hi readlady. Although the people are trying to make you feel guilty, only you can make yourself feel guilty. Don't make them make you feel guilty. I know this is hard to do but do it!

In your place, I would kindly tell them "I am not available to donate at this moment". If they would ask me why, I would tell them "There are personal reasons which I wish not to discuss right now". This has a powerful effect.

You didn't specificy whether you are doing it by phone or by person, but the concept is the same.

Young is right.

I don't know why, but my posts double. Have no idea what is causing this. I think it's something wrong with the site.

Give them 25 cents. It's a contribution. I won't make you poor, and it'll diminish your guilt.

I don't feel guilty, but I do like to talk with homeless people, some are really funny and good people. I would like to help serve food to the homeless this christmas

Add on.. I usually give money to people that ask for it. Except I do not give money to that guy trying to "make it on the train" "or get food" when he's puffing away on a cig.

Red, you need to inform these people that you are an ELITE! then they'll back off, incorporated of course with the secret handshake!

Apart from the marriage proposal and the sticking a camel in the eye - i might try something very odd - cause i am standing telling them - 'no i can't at the moment i am simply not in the position to do so' - BUT they still go on and on, 'it's only this much a month - do you know how many people die on the street everyday...................'
They must have seminar / course training where they learn all these techniques.

I have a shirt that says that same thing... Weird.. And why are your quotes on the bottom of the message?

yes... but when people quote on a forum, you usually post under the quote. not above it. maybe i'm just weird that way.

I may do just that - they always target me - that's not my paranoia talking either - they sing out to me from long distances and i just can't ignore them - which is why they sing out to me they can see it.

Going to go for a walk around my neighbourhood.

I am going to keep telling myself "how wonderful it is to be ouside". How great of an opportunity it is to enjoy the great weather, etc...

See you all soon :)
