Im going on Tuesday for a consultation. This is my first time going and I'm not exactly sure what to say in there. What should I expect in this meeting?

Congratulations on taking this important step, I know from experience how difficult it is. Apologies if this reply is too late for your purpose. When I first went to therapy the first couple of sessions were for an assessment so they could decide what course of treatment to put me on. There's nothing really to prepare for, they'll ask you the questions. Just tell the truth; you don't know what could be considered important. The most important thing to remember is that they won't judge you, it's their job to be understanding and to help you. My therapist was lovely and after the first couple of weeks I looked forward to going. It will be fine. Good luck, I hope it helps you. :)

Thanks for the reply. When I went, it was basically to reconfirm what I have been diagnosed already. The only difference is that this was coming from a psychiatrist instead of my family doctor. So he put me into a group therapy for social phobia. I am in a waiting list for 2 to 4 months but it is free so I can't really complain. He also gave a report/advice to my family doctor on what meds and the proper dosage I should take. I don't know what will come out of this but I am hopeful for something good.

Good luck! Glad it went well, I think group stuff can be really great - if there was a cheap/sliding scale therapist he could refer you too that did CBT that'd be good too.

I'm going to be doing the same soon seeing psych or therapist!

That's great that you've been put into group therapy. I had one on ones, group was recommended to me but I couldn't bring myself to do it, so I admire you for being able to take part in a group session. I'm sure it will help you, it will likely be a slow process but the end result will definately be worth it. Best of luck to you. :)

Congrats on getting some help. Group Therapy is so much more effective than 1-on-1. Good luck!
