i suppose this could apply to both boys and girls use might find it a stupid question ill have to get my hair cut soon as i havnt been out of house for weeks im drreading it because i could bump into someone that knows me while im walking there i could just shaved my head completly bald at home but then when i go out if someone sees me theyll think im gone mad ill usually go to barbers first thing in morning so im first in first out no waiting

For me it's not a problem getting there but having to sit in the chair and make small talk to the hairdresser while she cuts my hair. Do you have that as well?

What I don't like is that the hairdresser always has to make small talk. They always ask about crap they probably don't actually care about anyway. It seems to be part of the job but I'd rather they just cut my hair. It just seems so pointless to talk to a stranger about where I work or if I go to school or whatever. It's irrelevant. Once I happened to get a hairdresser who was kinda quiet and didn't say much. It was nice.

I can completely relate, I never know what to say or if I should say something at all. I'm afraid not to though because I'll feel stupid if I just sit there. It should be so easy...

I used to going to the barbers find it quite nerveracking, but once you've done a few times I found there wasn't a problem. Of course the places I go to don't do smalltalk so that's not a problem.

Oh I hear that. ;3 For some reason I always have to feeling that the person who's cutting my hair is judging me for having long hair. Ugh, I hate it so much, because then I have to explain to him/her to just take some of it off, and to not go Picasso on my scalp.

That's why I started cutting it myself a few months ago. Last time I took a good 4 inches off, and it still reached my shoulders with ease. ^W^;

haha, well it seems that they all do small talk worldwide! I didn't know that lol

I always humiliated myselfwhen going to these places, so a few months ago I bought some clippers and do it myself and it looks just as good! SA problem:

lol luke!

yeah, it's awkward being in the chair but you have to figure how many hundreds of peoples' hair they cut. not all of those people are going to enjoy small talk, so it's not like you'll be the first awkward, quiet person they've encountered. they know it can be uncomfortable for some people. that is what i tell myself when i go.

I've been doing it that way for years. I usually just buzz mine all off (no attachments). And when it starts to need a comb to look perfect, it's time to shave it all off again. And you've reminded me that it's getting to be about that time....

I don't think I could cut my own hair, I'd be too worried about getting wrong which would make me more selfconsious.

It is actually a good conversation starter... I use to have long hair (down to my butt) until i decided to get it buzzed. Now everybody wants to know the why... my favorite answer<- can't be hugging trees forever :D

I just don't like the small talk. And I'm not a morning person so I go whenever I have time. I don't really care about the crowd. I can handle crowds of strangers if they're minding their own business. I just don't like crowds of people interacting with each other.

Using just clippers on everything from the neck up (save eyebrows and eyelashes) is pretty hard to mess up. If you feel a spot that's still soft, you go over it again until it's stubbly.

This thread actually inspired me to buzz my head again tonight. Once again I have the bald to go with the fat and the ugly.

I like a bit of length in my hair, if I have it too short I feel like a skinhead.

I've gotten over the shyness of going to the barber shop. I decided I need to stop shaving my own head for once in 13 years and that I needed a better hairstyle than the same short hair and waiting till it got about one inch long just to repeat the process.

So I got in my car and 45 minutes later, I had my half-way decent and simple haircut (simply short on the sides and top combed back).

It turned out to be absolutely no big deal, to my delight

Cost is about 15 bucks (but if I like it, I give him/her 2 bucks tip).
