Experiences with Citalopram

I just started taking it, 10mg a day which will be increased to 20mg next week and possibly 40mg after that.
I know it takes several weeks before starting to kick in but I haven't really felt anything good yet.

Side effects for me have been nausea, weakened sexdrive and a general numbness and sense of displacement.
I do not like the side effects at all so far, the drug seems to take away my focus which I depend on.
The lack of focus has actually lessened my hope of the future and I feel even crappier about myself now.

I would very much like to hear your experiences with this drug.
Is it possible these side effects will go away and I'll start feeling normal?
Or is this what it's gonna be like?

Hello ZappBrannigan.

The side effects should go away- mine eventually went away after a week or two. However they reappeared, albeit for a much shorter time, when my dosage was increased.

On the whole, Citalopram didn't do much for me. I hope you have better luck with it.

Well that's a relief (the side effects going away).
I am a bit dubious about how effective the drug is as I have seen people mentioning it not working on several occasions.

When should I expect to start feeling some changes?
I haven't felt anything yet exepting the side effects.

Similar to the majority of anti-depressants, Citalopram may take up to 6-8 weeks for the beneficial effects to be noticed.

I have been on citalopram(60mg/day) and clonazepam(1mg/day) from about 3 months ago which have been combined by fluoxetine(60mg/day) from about 1.5 months ago. At the first months I haven't found any improvement and I have become disappointed.
But form a month ago I am getting better rapidly such that I am fairly much improved now. Also the only side effect which persists is weakened
sex drive for me.
I have found very inconsistent results about its efficiency in different persons, but two important keys in using ADs are maximum tolerable dosage and about 8-12 weeks to work.
Also there are very experiences about citalopram at following url which may help.

Good to hear from you by the way.

Hi, i've been on this med for about 4-5 months now, it has helped alot. The first night I took it, I felt a super happy high type feeling come over me, then about an hour later I felt either dizzy or tired, I can't remember...those side effects go away after a week or two.

I starting talking to my family again...I hadn't talked to them in so long...

Then I made a quick convo with a girl at petsmart...it was going ok, she was smiling & asking me the same questions twice cause I think I she wanted me to talk more but it was pretty cool compared to just looking in the opposite direction and not saying a word.

It's like a helping hand, not a cure, you have to make the effort to go out, even though you fear it...it makes going out in public not as bad.
