I have the exact same fear as Gieky (fear of people driving by and laughing and/or judging) so I just stay inside. I'm currently cooped up at my grandparents' house for the summer anyway, so last night I paced around the house for about an hour.

Running when I feel like it, more for the sake of it.

Did weight lifting today. Chest, back, and arms. For the first time I did 85 for 3 reps on bench press and then was able to do 93 for 1 rep. Also did 85 for 3 reps on Bent over Rows.

My endurance is back to square one, need motivation to build it back again.

20 minutes on a stationary bike with a mix of low, moderate, and high intensity. And then 20 minutes of bringing in firewood.

Upper body today. Bent over rows, bench press, overhead press, etc. Lifted heavier weight on almost every lift. I finally feel strong.

Good work Rawz.

Another 10km for me. Cool today, and I had more energy. There was a Scottish pipe band playing near the old cemetery, as part of Australia Day celebrations. Other than two dogs off the leash that I encountered , the outside world didn't intrude on my run.

8km Went to bed earlier to make sure I got a run in. Not sleeping well with the heat and humidity, so almost slept in again. It was overcast, and there are few other joggers, many cyclists, mum's wheeling babies in prams. Dog walkers. Kids being dropped at the high school. A few coffee drinkers in the shops on the Jetty strip.

10km run. It was warm and humid, but it didn't knock me around, so that I want to sleep for hours, like my last few runs have done.

I exercise almost everyday, doing a variety of activities ranging from running to yoga. But over the years, I find it so hard to lose weight (as well as maintain my ideal weight) and so easy to gain weight!

True story: when I was younger, around age 16-18, I barely exercised at all. I don't do sports. I'm the typical nerd sitting at home studying. I sleep a lot during the summers. And the thing is, I don't weigh a lot! Despite my sedentary life (and normal appetite, not that I'm starving or anything), my BMI was very low. I was at my ideal weight.
Fast forward to many years later. I exercise almost everyday, but still 5 lbs overweight. I used to run 2 miles a week but still see no results in weight loss. It's like no matter how much I exericse, I am still several lbs above my ideal weight (compared to ages 16-18 when I am at my ideal weight). I remember successfully reaching my ideal weight approximately 1 year ago, when I dieted at my peak. But I have since gained back the weight.

I have several theories for this. 1) BMR decreases as we age. The amount of calories we burn at rest is higher in younger people than older people. This explains why I burn less calories as I age. 2) muscle loss. We start losing muscle after the age of 20. We lose around 5-6 lbs of muscle per decade. Muscles are important for dieting because they help us burn calories.

Go figure. No wonder it's so hard to lose weight as we age. I recommend people lose weight earlier rather than wait until, say age 40 or 50 to do so.
