i've been practising Yoga asanas for the past six months now. I am being taught by a Yoga teacher in my city. I go to class everyday at 6 am. so I get up a 5 am every day( I was never an early riser), at 5:30 i leave home on my bicycle, I ride for half an hour to the class. Its a nice warm up to begin the stretches in various asanas. I also get to socialise with other practisioners there. we go for a walk on certain days. Every sunday that is tommorow we climb steps of a famous Hill in the city and practise there for an half an hour in the open atop the hill.

today evening at 5 pm I ran for 10 mins, I started running since 3 days. after that I did one hour of asana practise. I have never felt more light, more nimble and more supple physically ever before since I started Yoga practise. This has its effects mentally.

I feel great!

I would really recommend for you all to learn atleast Suryanamaskara or sun salutation. just this one sequence of series of asanas will be of greatest benefit to the practioners one can gain. Do so under a learned ones guidance please.

I must thank the creator of this thread. I could always use some inspirations and share my experience. Thank you :)

2 hour surf yesterday morning at a nearby beach break. First surf since Nov 2012 so felt a bit apprehensive being in the water again. Waited paitiently....patience paid off and got a sweet little barrel. They are the waves that keep me coming back. In the afternoon I decided to take advantage of my unusual enthusiasm and motivation and loaded my bike to drive 60km's to a mountain bike trail that is very fun to ride. Did the 10km loop then the abbreviated loop that takes in an absolutely sweet but short section of very narrow but smooth and twisting descending single track. Felt good, heart rate getting up there and some burn in the legs from the morning surf.

I want to be fit again. I am going to be fit again and this is the start of my journey. Looking out the window at the grey sky and rain as I type this and contemplating what to do today to keep the momentum going

Nothing's changed in a decade of exercise - wish I'd been swimming more
It started at my first school at 4 in an old Roman Bath style where my lovely primary teacher dipped me in for the first time and gave me a shock. I was natural soon, and vaguely remember been awarded at a gala swimming event, but the next two schools didn't have didn't have decent pools. We got a minibus to share another school's one which made some impact on me to to put me off which I can't remember at all. It all happened with my mum taking me personally to a public pool. Can you believe that? This significant era of SA took its hold and I had no notion of what it meant! Prevented from contact sport or military practice or scouting by blood condition.

Now I've been making it up to myself since about 2002 at my anti-uni gym on campus. Shed some weight. It was only my time in jail in 1996 that introduced me to the closest to exercise which NEVER happened from 1989 to 1994 at school! I sat alone in the IT room while games were played in school fields. There was a brand new posh olympic size swimming pool built onsite at school. I was shown it and never used it. Epic failure! Swimming is the ultimate sport not involving contact to affect my bruising and bleeding trouble. Now I think of my natural frustration to put a 3rd finger to teachers and parents with my rebellious side by refusing exercise, which probably propagates right into my lack of employment! My superiority has become the way I behave to bosses and in interviews! There was lots of water polo in that pool and a friend has been in groups and teams through uni and still now. I should have tried everything no-contact sport - I blame teachers and parents for SA - they should have forced me into it - I remember diving was not recommended because the pressure on the head when entering the water might have cause trouble in blood capillaries in the brain and eyes to bleed... I was told to avoid any physical injury - athletics

Health & unmotivation set my deep SA roots, I think. It was my excuse to proper life to give up on exercise, as a rebel.

My training regime seems to be declining a bit. Each session I add a bit to running speed with incline stuck at maximum, 60 min, 8km. Limited by machine! In jail, I had buddies to push me nicely, getting from 10kg both sides of the barbell bench press and further. Proper muscle growth. When reaching the end of being able to do any more reps, someone would put their fingers under the bar to help me do one more. That was my real motivation. Not enough now I'm doing it by myself. Limited interactivity with other students - just learning a few new techniques. No real ab muscles showing as I want. Trying the combo of weight loss and pull-ups to build arms to achieve my golden ability of lifting my entire weight, which I even tried to show off at the bus shelter to friends. Not quite able yet.

I'd say none of my school friends of my age would ever do any exercise after school in 1994. They're all maried with kids, pets, cars & holidays. They're getting fat. They did all cross country, football, rugby, cricket, hockey, swimming, plenty of holidays. All bathed in money by earning because they smile

I need a shower

Drove 280km round trip today to explore some trails I haven't yet ridden. The drive there was 90% familiar, but I have never ventured up into the hills. Great views, almost stopped to take some photos but kept going. Arrived in carpark as two riders were dismounting. They offered a heap of information about the trails whilst they packed up and I unpacked. They looked really happy...the ride had given them that unmistakable buzz. I rode for about 1.5 hours. The decent back to the car is truly awesome...superfast sweeping singletrack. I reckon I hit 28kmph on a few sections and could push it harder next time I ride there which hopefully wont be to long away. Doesn't sound fast but 28kmph feels sooo fast when on a track not much more than a meter wide in parts. Heart rate up both ascending and descending. I pushed a few of the climbs...I figure that as my fitness improves I will be able to grind up in a lower gear. The legs are willing but the lungs are struggling. So much fun. I think I may invest in a wireless bike computer and start recording my rides so I can quantify any gains in my fitness through quicker lap times etc. For now I am just really enjoying going a little faster on the descents and pushing myself a little bit more each time

I want to go swimming but it's raining outside. So I ran a mile on the treadmill, and then alternated between push ups and whackin the boxing bag.

1 hour ride on a mixture of the road and dual use pathways (pedestrians and cyclists) Strong side wind. Only about 10 kms and no real hills to speak of. Put some extra 10psi of air into my rear shock to see how it behaved but couldn't really tell the difference. Some quick sprints on the trip home to keep my heart rate up. Looking forward to early Wednesday morning as I think the strong onshore winds will have backed off and I may score a sneaky uncrowded surf.

8km 37:17.

after losing some weight and becoming lean through biking and regulated food intake. I am beginning to like running a lot. especially being outdoor makes it that much special for me. I get to watch people playing cricket, some people walking and day before yesterday It started to rain and it was so much fun to be out and running while it drizzled.

8 kms @ 37:17 sounds awesome. keep up, Ki

I've shelved all my classes in favour of running while the weather's nice and I'm gradually building up distance and speed since it's been a few months since I last went running.

yesterday 5.2 km 35 mins
today 5.2 km 32 mins

I'll take tomorrow off and try 6.5km on Wednesday

Yesterday the weather was out of control so no exercise. Today a 1 hour surf in the morning. Damn it was cold, there was a mist on the beach and around the shorebreak. I have only ever seen that once before in 25+ years of surfing. This afternoon I went for a ride for about 30kms along the coast, again a mixture of bike paths and roads. Weather is cold but fine. Legs are sore.

biked from my home to a nearby sports grounds which is less than a Km. Im using this as a warm up for running. Weather, cloudy and slight drizzle for me this is the best weather I love it. I know I been saying this a lot. So I ran for 15 mins and then did some basic asanas.

Today was so fun at the grounds. There were two groups playing cricket and one group of guys playing football and i was doing some stretches. I hear dogs barking what do I see? a labrador going after the football, took the footballers by surprise and started nudging and running ater the ball. the guys were like chasing after him like they were laughing and trying real hard to get the ball back and they really enjoyed it. so did all other watching it and that excited a pack of mongrels who were all watching the action from a distance and It all looked like they were about to team up for a match between guys versus them the canines. that made me think whether i should get a dog. the last time we had a dog was like in 2006.

Then i biked for about 12kms in the drizzle. I love the whole twilight mood. The dim sky, The lights from vehicles and shops. the wet tarmac reflecting em. clouds passing overhead, water drops, cool breeze. one thing I didnt like was all the smoke from the vehicles. Lots of em, Im really thinking whether to continue biking? Im also thinking its time to make people use bikes more. there are way too many motor vehicles on the roads here. ah! its such chaos.

Drove 220km round trip to ride a 6km singletrack loop. Pretty sore today and struggled a bit on the climbs. Trail very quiet...no one else riding. Today I looked at some of the obstacles and decided to take the B-line. For some reason I was anxious about possibly hurting myself. I feel like I kind of wasted my time today...if I am going to think that I will injure myself all the time I may as well not bother.

How do you run so much? I can't stand running more than 4kms.

I walk 15 minutes every day to the bus for work and 15 minutes back from the bus stop to home.

I try to do at least a sun salutation in the morning so I won't be drowsy and usually that works.
