everyone seems to have a social life , and i dont

Hey,

It seems like everybody has a social life, everyone goes to college, school, work, goes out, goes to parties, have friends..
I do have friends But I am still at home.
And im watching MTV and it really wants me to get out
I want to make some fun.. I hate being this way
But at the same time its my comfort zone..
But still I would love to do some social stuff like going out
Im glad i will go see a friend this thursday, but still the afternoon's like these..
Are just me sitting at home and watching some tv.. movies.. talking with mom..
Posting things on spw.. Cleaning the house.. Its not fun to be at home everyday..
i want to do something like a study

but i have to wait.. till those things get started again
because a counselor is trying to find a school for me
and also work.. (pretty nervous:$)

Hey Saskia! :)

Can you find some free courses or events at your library or book store or cafe or something nice and easy like that? For example, I really like book presentations or travel slide presentations of exotic places or such...
(You don't have to talk much, but you can, otherwise you can just sit and watch, if you see someone you know or meet someone nice and interesting... You could even call up a friend and go together...?)

Even small towns can have some interesting free events, big cities can have even more.. Lots of courses here are also EU-funded (for example for 'adult education' or 'non-profit education'...)

There was discussion about this in another thread, I'll try to find it and post a link...
Okay, found it: http://www.socialphobiaworld.com/dont-want-to-go-home-29646/ - I posted on page 1 and 2, ideas where to find info about these things :) Good luck finding something interesting! (And tell us all about it here then! :))

I dont know how to help you but I think my problems are even more worse.Im 18 and never had real close friends.I had like 4 but I was a child at this time and having fun was not such a problem for me.I always need to think what to say and even with school mates when its break I make them unconfortabel and they dont know what to talk about.I think this is a symptom of avpd.I always think before I say something but most of the time I just say nothing.

During last few years of school, even losers I would hang out with at school did stuff outside and some times went out, but I did not. I would mostly try to ignore that, but once in a while I would see glimpses of what they do.

Later I got more depressed about my lack of social life at the same time being anxious when occasionally people would ask me to hang out with them.

I went to uni (although I nearly quit a number of times), things got worse there, as everybody was very social. They were going out clubbing, partying meanwhile I didn't even have a friend!

If you have some friends, it's perhaps best to go to one of these things together with a friend first.. And then when you meet some people there (at least the librarians/bookshop assistants etc. present at events) it may be easier.. Or if it's something that really interests you..

It's normal to have some fear/anxiety/excitement, it usually goes well though!! :)

Social group meetings - I think these would be more difficult for me, except if they would be on themes that interest me a lot.. Again, it's probably best to go with a friend first and meet up in public and be very careful about it.. and arrange to be picked up or go home together with a friend or relative.. (like for any online meet-ups, like for dating.. you never know what kind of people may come.. mostly people who go to libraries or book events seem quite nice..)

I hear ya, I dont have a social life at all.
The only time i get out of my house is if im going to my boyfriends house.
Which is actually good, since he has roommates and such so it forces me to talk to others.
Sometimes I go though these periods of time where all i want to do is hang out with people and do something but i dont have any one to hang out with so i end up just letting that mood fade away.
If I didnt live 32883282 miles away from you I would love to hang out!

I can understand where you are coming from.

I am in a similar boat as you. Doing the same stuff everyday, a routine. Wears you down a little. I go through moments of wanting to hang out with people then just wanting to retreat back into my comfort zone. For example, facebook makes me want to go out, when I go out I want to go home. Lol.

Volunteer at the zoo or Van Gogh house? :D
Emmen Things To Do - Attractions & Must See - VirtualTourist

(Someone I know worked at a zoo, cleaning poo - but hey, it was a zoo!! And got money for it!! You might even work with the tourist office, maybe, as sort-of online PR? As you like posting videos etc?)

These men dressed as pirates sound fun too? :D Emmen Local Customs - Culture - VirtualTourist (I'd totally go and listen! :D)
And maybe you could get a garden to work on? ;)

Emmen Nightlife - Clubs & Bars - VirtualTourist
Emmen is selected as the best leisure town in the Netherlands by the ANWB, the Dutch tourist organisation. Besides the very known Emmer Zoo there are a lot of activities in Emmen like markets and festivals.

During the C'est la Vie Festival there is alos a summerfair in the towncentre with many spectacular attractions. At the last day of the summerfair there is always a splendid firework.
Well, sounds exciting!! Maybe there are more things to do in summer, probably some things to do now too.. (double check things for any changes as some entries on this site seem to be a bit old..)

Ooh, and you had Nena? http://www.last.fm/event/1548254+RetroPop+Festival+2010
