Embarssing Moment Provoked By Social Anxiety

I was taking a math quiz today and once I realized I was the only one still taking it, I started to get really nervous.
Once I finished taking it, I even agonized having to go up to turn in my paper.
The room was silent and all eyes were on me, on my way up to turn it in.
After I added my paper to the pile I was so relieved and quickly headed back towards my desk.
You know how your eyes can be open but you can be so absorbed in your nervousness and thoughts that you don't even notice the environment around you?
Well, I didn't realize that I had sat down in the wrong seat.
I got up in my seat, hoping no one had noticed and went one seat back, to mine.
Suddenly all the kids in my area of the room burst out laughing.
I turned so red and starting sweating; it was horrible. I litterally could've cried right then and there.
I realize that this embarssing moment isn't too bad considering all the people who have lost their top in a swimming pool or got caught picking their nose, lol.
I also know that the kids who laughed probably didn't care. It's nothing personal, they just found it funny cause it was, right?

Why do I feel as though the world is going to end though? :(

Don't worry, they've got bigger things to worry about. Besides, making fun of such a situation is something I could never understand. I've seen teachers falling and, while everyone was laughing, I didn't find it funny at all; if you fall down, you get up again. I seriously don't know what's so hilarious about seeing someone get embarassed.

Still, I can only imagine what it must have been like. I've never been through anything of that sort because I was usually one of the first people to finish tests and exams.

:D Thank you thoughtless!

Yeah I know what you mean about people laughing at others when they get injured. I too don't get what's so funny about it.

I never had that problem I was normally one of the first done. If I was the first to finish I would wait till some other people turned in their tests before I did. I would just pretend to be working on my test till the others turned in their tests.

I wouldn't worry about the people laughing. I doubt anybody cared it was just a funny situation. Everybody probably forgot about it after class.

I find the best thing to do to calm my embarrassment when things like that, I'm always tripping over my own feet, happen to me is to laugh at myself, that way people don't know how much I care, which makes me less self-conscious, even though I end up thinking of it all day.

Thanks everyone. :D Yeah, I'll eventually get over it. I mean if the same thing had happened to someone else, sure I may have laughed, but then I would have forgotten about it within an instant. :?
If someone finds this incident so remarkable that they bring it up tomorrrow in class, it just goes to show you that they really need to get a life, right?

OMG. That reminds me of the most embarrassing moment in my life. We were discussing as a group in class. I was talking with my friends and all of a sudden I farted. It was so loud. Everyone could hear it. Then people asked "Who was that?" Then someone said my name and the teacher gave an eww. I was so embarrassed and wished I could've disappeared. But to think back about it now it was just really funny.

In 99.9% of situations, I get overcome with fear, but I have had a few occasions where I have been the one thats laughing. I wil share them with you, to cheer you up lol!

I dont know if its because of nervousness, but whenever Im in a room or area where there are more than 1 person around and everything is quiet, I get the urge to laugh. I cant control it, I just keep laughing even if Im going to get into trouble. This happened alot in quiet classes at school and people used to whisper to me to stop laughing else the teacher would see, but I could never help it.
It dont happen in EVERY quiet place, just the ones where I was more nervous, eg school or a doctors surgery or some other building where someone was going to call my name or something.

Does anyone else laugh in scary quiet situations?

I also did this computer course with my Mum a few years ago and the seats were those swivel ones, well me being me and having zero balance, I got up too quicky, tripped over my bag and fell over the chair with the chair falling over too. That was an absolutle nightmare. There were about 50 people in the room, including all the tutors (all adults) and they all just stared at me. I was so shocked I started laughing and I couldnt stop. Then people were asking me if I was OK and I kept saying yes but I found it so funny, even though people were just staring as though I was an alien they hadnt seen before lol.

Then another time, I was playing table tennis with my Mum on holiday and when I hit the ball, it went up some guys shorts. I was so embarrased especially when my Mum made ME go and fetch it. I got it back and I was in hysterics. I was laughing SO HARD, I was literally crying. I took a break from table tennis for about 10 minutes trying to get my laughter under control. Then I was crying, tears streaming out my eyes and the man on the table next to me had seen the whole event and he was laughing so hard, he had tears coming out of his eyes too.

So whenever I think of the table tennis incident, I dont feel embarrased really. It just gives me something to laugh about.

Don't feel bad about your laughing attacks, it happens to me to when I'm nervous. I also have bad balance and trip over things alot. I heard it was a common SP thing to have.
One of my most embarrassing moments was when I got married, talk about being nervous! I was flipping out, I was so scared. And of course, I got a laughing fit when I was asked to repeat my vows! Totally innapropriate! My hubby gave me a kind of dirty look for laughing but I couldn't help it, it was nerves. The judge just smiled at me though and I think he wanted to laugh as well.
I have also had laughing fits when I'm in a room and it's quiet and you just know the most inappropriate thing in the world would be to laugh. I can feel myself turning totally red, trying to hold it in, and if other's see me they start laughing too. It gets contagious.
Maybe the laughing is a stress mechanism. Like we have too much anxiety about a situation and we laugh to release some of it. Because although, I get embarrased afterward, laughing feels better than crying.
