Does food make benzos such as diazepam effective or ineffective??

At my previous address I was prescribed a pathetic dose of diazepam/valium (2 mg tablets) so about 6mg-8mg then it was increased to 15mg which is still a low dose. Now I've moved to another city & the doc has prescribed 20-30mg of valium ( 10mg tablets). I take a little bit more around 30-35mg. I even take 40mg sometimes BUT it's not working! I don't feel any effect & I think it has something to do with the food. So I was wondering if it's more effective to take valium with or without food what food do you recommand I should eat?? Should I eat the food before or after taking my daily dose of valium?? I've been taking valium first than afterwards eating foods like macaroni, cheese, baguettes & custard but the valium's not working is it cause of these foods?? Is it more effective for me to take valium on an empty stomach(in the morning or after a bowel movement) & not eat any food at all afterwards??

I've been on them (10 mg. 4 x day) for about 3 years and have found that when taken with food, I can NOT feel any effects of them. If I take them on an empty stomach, I DO feel the effects. Also, if you drink grapefruit juice, the effects seem to intensify a bit. This has been my personal observation...everyone reacts differently - perhaps you should tell your doctor and they can give you either a stronger single dose or another benzo. Another thing, my sister is on Xanax (1 mg as needed) and recently ran out before her appointment. Anyhow, she took 1 of my valium and she said she couldn't tell she had taken anything. Hope this helps :)

Those are like tranquilizers right? Is it possible your tolerance has gone up or something?
